Default 69 Body Lift - Cape Easton Lift Off Seven

Sunday, February 7th, will be my seventh body lift off (different cars) at my home garage which is in Easton, PA. I call it Cape Easton for fun, hope this doesn't offend anyone.

As with my previous offers I am opening up lift off number seven to forum members that may be interested in seeing what is involved in lifting a body off of a C-3 chassis. Most of you may have done this already so this is someone extended to those that have not seen it previously, but even if you have seen it you are welcomed to come and be a part of the fun.

I will plan to have the body ready for lifting no later than noon, most likely earlier, but will wait if folks are coming by to see it.

If you would like to participate please PM me and I can give you directions to my home.

Look forward to another successful lift off.

Best regards,

David

You're making quick work of that one. Good luck with the lift. I'm more that likely doing mine on the 12th.

If I was just a tad closer, I'd be all over this. About a 4 and 1/2 hour drive ( or less ). I would be very oncerned about missing the pre-Super Bowl drinking too.

Good luck! Hope it goes well.

Default Lift Off

I am very anxious to see the body off. I really would like to know if the build sheet is still on the tank. I have it ready to go, see you Sat. You are a great member to the forum for offering trailer space, free parts, very passionate about C3's.

With the front clip already removed from this car it will be much, much easier to lift this body from the chassis once all the bolts have been removed and connections between the body and chassis have been removed. Grounding wires, wire harness wires, bolts, etc. all have to be removed first, but we will have it off on Sunday. I'll have it ready to go early.

I'll share pictures, I promise.

Best regards,

David

We all hope that there isn't a message "Cape Easton, we have a problem!"

In an unprecedented move and due to favorable winds and weather, Cape Easton has moved the lift off date from Sunday, February 7th, to Saturday, February 6th and accelerated the launch.

Details will be shared when the body is successfully placed upon its body dolly and rolled outside for pictures.

T-Minus....and counting.

Default Lift off

Well David picked up my donor car right on schedule. A really nice man who has a great trailer and setup. He really knows what he is doing. I can see why he has so many followers and friends and contacts. Safe trip home David and thank you for all that you do. Will be anxious to see what you find.
Regards
Roger

I got home last night just about 8:00 pm and opened the trailer up to take a couple of pictures after transporting the 69 Cortez Silver Donor Car from Roanoke, VA to Easton, PA.

I had seen the driver side damage when I was with Roger picking up the car and my goal was to get it home before it yielded and left me a troublesome extraction from the trailer. Here are two pictures from last night showing what I found when I opened the trailer side door.

This is the number three body mount sitting on the trailer floor on the right side of the picture. It was attached when I left but the seven hour ride on Interstate Highways proved to be just a little too much for the old girl.

The good news is the passenger side has not yet yielded and may be sufficient to hold this car together for the off load and movement into my garage. That is the hope.

The only thing holding the driver side together now is the body which is coming off today. This makes removal a bit trickier, but I am certain we can do this...

Oh, and good morning to you all.

We are pretty excited about the combination of numbers matching engine, transmission, and carburetor that is sitting in the car. We will learn a lot more about it today and share what we learn, but it appears to be pretty much all there, and pretty much original. That makes a careful extraction of the motor and transmission much more interesting.

First I will locate the car from the trailer to the garage center bay and then shore up the car using jack stands and 4X4's. I don't want it to break in half like the titanic and damage the body before I can remove it from the chassis. Chassis stability 101. All else follows.

It was a good day. Liftoff was successful and Eric (Tyrant) stepped up and stepped in to help make this day special.
Thanks Eric.
