it's a mixed bag motor, so I'm not sure it has a certain value, but it is still a BB. Always wanted one since I had my 427 nova which was from your town. Good luck more will chime in

If these parts are in a running car together, they are probably worth more to the interested consumer.
Not that a 396 and an M20 aren't desirable, but a 396 is sort of a ugly duckling in the world of big blocks. Id be inclined to think that most people are going to lean toward seeking out a readily available 454 versus a 396.
Do you have any details and documentation of the build combo, or is this a mystery motor that you took ownership of? In my opinion, if this was in a running car, and it made all the right noises and didn't have any issues, I'd probably be willing to spend $1500 if I really had to have it.
For me, the only way I'd be buying a 396 would be to plop it into some big bodied convertible or a full size pickup with a pooped sbc. However, not everyone is the same, and maybe someone else is dreaming about a 396 for years.
Either way, make it look pretty and take someone for a ride to make the sale.
The M20 is going to be a course spline, and Id say should be able to fetch $700 whether on your garage floor, or running in your car.
