Needing fiberglass repair suggestions...
Here is the area I need to fix.. Any tips/tricks for this particular area? You can see there is a whole piece missing at the bottom and the crack extends up the bend. Ive also never done any fiberglass repair before but nothing like starting out with a difficult area..

I only have a portion of the broken piece. I figured i would just put down the fiberglass and then cut to shape with a template made from the other side.

YES..this is a VERY TOUCHY AREA. It still can be repaired...but I can say you will need to take out your seat...and the 1/4 interior trim that is in your photo...possible some carpet of cover it to protect it.
The majority of this repair will be on the other side that you can not see in the photo. BUT the crack that you can see will be repaired from the visible side.
You car is a SMC car...so using polyester resin in something I would not use. I would use WEST SYSTEMS epoxy resin.
The time to prep the area and being upside down on your head prepping the backside is the most fun part. Bonding in the broken piece is possible and I can not say if that would be the easiest way or making a whole new piece when you laminate the area.
So much of this will depend on what you are expecting or how you want it to look when completed. Repairing it as if NOTHING ever happened is POSSIBLE because I do it....but that takes TIME and PATIENCE.

Finally finished my first every fiberglass repair! For having never done fiberglass before and adding to that the location with the shaping involved, I think it turned out pretty good!
Decided I didn't want to attempt crack repair and opted for completely new section. Figured it would be stronger that way..
Used the foam as a backer and laid down MANY LAYERS of fiberglass.
Can't forget to do the back side as well ! What a PITA!! My aching back!!
Trimmed down and cleaned up a bit before final shaping of the area.
Made a template for final shaping using the opposite side. Lot of cutting, sanding, and smoothing to get it just right!
Finished repair!!! It will get painted when the rest of the car is redone...

fiberglass work
That was a pretty difficult spot and repair for someone's first time out. A great accomplishment that should make you feel pretty good.
Nice job............................

VERY NICELY DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY.
For what this is worth.
Not meaning to throw 'stuff' at you. Just be aware....that when you go to prime this area....the chances that numerous pinholes will show up it highly possible. AND how you basically stop that is to lightly scuff/grind down your laminated fiberglass and apply a thin coat of a body filler on it. I prefer Vette Panel Adhesive.
Just thought I would let you know.
