Belt Diagram
Does anyone have a engine belt diagram for a 1970 small block with power steering? Mine came from GM with three belts, Water pump, Alternator and power steering.
Just looking to complete my documentation.
Thanks.

Hi M70,
Here's the p/s sheet from the 71 AIM.
Base engines had 2 belts also even without the p/s option.
You should seriously consider buying an Assembly Instruction Manual and GM Chassis Service Manual for your 70.
Regards,
Alan

The 'base' small block engine only has two belts (with alt and P/S only). But, both pass around the crank/water pump path. The LS5 big block engine uses three belts for alt & P/S configuration; but there are still only two that make the crank/water pump path.
The GM strategy was to ALWAYS have two belts on the crank/w-p route so that, if one broke, there was another belt to keep water circulating in a running engine.

Thanks all for your reply, when I bought my car new in 1970 I also invested in a couple of Helm manuals, one which is the assembly manual.
I was lucky to be able to drive this car off the dealers show room floor, at the time it had 15 miles on it. I still amaze myself in that I was 19 when I bought it and never tricked it out, to this day the car is all stock, just like it rolled off the floor in 1970 except now it has 61K miles on it.
I just finished re-belting the car, (third set) and yes with three belts that I got from Paragon Corvette.
For many years I have looked for a belt diagram using three belts, not sure one exist.....my quest continues.

I didn't have the where with all to afford a Corvette in 71, but with my father co-signing, I bought a new 71 El Camino when I was 17. I still have it today, and other than a set of mags and dual exhaust, it's all stock and unrestored. I also have an 81 Corvette that I bought new, that's untouched with 44,000 miles on it, and an NCRS Top Flight.
How about some pictures of your 70?

I have a 1970 Corvette Parts Book, and it contains a Chevrolet "HOTLINE Bulletin No. 70-11" dated 10/5/70, that says the following: 1970-71 CORVETTE FAN BELT CHARTS - The following Fan Belt Charts are complete revisions of Charts presently in the catalog. The old Charts should be removed and replaced by the new ones. Fortunately, my Parts Book still has both the original belts page, and the Hotline Bulletin, in it.
Apparently, even Chevrolet didn't realize that the 70 L-48 with power steering, used three belts. The 70 Parts Book only lists two belts for the N40 equipped L-48, the "Fan & Generator" belt 3941116 (3/8" - 35 1/8") and "Power Steering Pump" belt 3927158 (3/8" - 36"). The Hotline Bulletin clarifies it by adding belt number 3861946 (3/8" -54") as the "Fan & Generator" belt, 3927158 as the "Power Steering Pump" belt, and adding the "Water Pump & Fan" belt, with the 3941116 water pump belt under the new listing.
