Do I have very rare 75 convertible?
Hi all, can anyone advise me on this, is it a rare combination? I have recently got '75 convertible, and it has the folowing:
4-speed
no power brakes
no power steering
Unfortunately, not L-82. Yes, I know, being rare and desirable is not the same, but let's just focus on the rarity aspect here

Any 75 convertible is somewhat rare since they only account for around 12% of the cars built that year. Both manual brakes and manual steering were very rare options that year, less than around 3k cars. You say the car is a 4 speed L48 car. I didn't think the 4 speed was an option for the L48, only with the L82.
Unfortunately your statement on rarity not translating to high value is true. A low optioned car, even though rare, wouldn't command a bigger price than a more common highly optioned car.

The close ratio M21 was not an option with the base engine, the M20 wide came with the base.

I don't know how rare no power brakes or steering is in your car , but if my car didn't have it then it would be top priority to install it. I don't want to work when I drive it. The 75 convertible is the rare part though . A very nice Corvette and don't seem to be many of them left.

You don't mention a radio or factory air; both were very popular options.

I have a rare 74 convertible. She has a rare 568 hp LS3 and a rare 4 speed automatic. I pulled the rare, numbers matching 195 hp L48 and set it in the corner. Then I took the rare, sloppy power steering and replaced it with a really rare power rack and pinion unit. Case in point is with really rare cars like yours and mine, the sky is the limit to how rare you can get.

You're describing a base convertible since PB, PS, and the L-82 were optional. You can play with The Corvette Blackbook numbers and might get in the ball park, but since GM did not keep option package data for body style, you probably can't nail down a reliable figure.

Can you confirm the VIN number on the A-Pillar, and on the transmission, match the L-48 VIN number you have? If they do then you have a car that GM says they didn't offer, or at least didn't publish that they would offer it, and that would make it rare.
My two cents.

Let me ask what no one has asked previously and one question I am interested in learning a little more about your car.

Are you sure, that such combination could not be ordered from the factory? According to the following page of Corvette 1968-1982 Restoration Guide by Richard Price, it was not possible to order M21 4speed close ratio transmission with base L48. However, it was possible to order M20 standard 4speed. Which (if buildsheet verifies this) would be the case of my car.

I have a 1975 roadster with the following options:
L-82, close ratio 4 speed, gymkana suspension, heavy duty battery, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, tilt/ telescopic, deluxe leather interior, shoulder belts, both tops, AM/FM stereo, map light, lights on warning buzzer, dual horns, and rear window defogger.
I think it may be the most heavily optioned 1975 roadster on the planet!!!

Linas,
I used to own some pretty rare kit cars, ones that build numbers were less than 200 even less than 100 made didn't make them worth some holy grail,
But looking at where you are located I am betting you have a hell of a rare car for no other reason than it's a c3 corvette in Lithuania
