Thanks for the Front Page coverage of this thread. I found it very informative as I'm in the market for a 71 BB myself. Owned a 71 Pontiac GTO with a 455 H.O./M-22 and loved that car! Cannot imagine that kind of torque in a Corvette of the same vintage.

There were many inconsistencies which implied this may not be an original big block car. Overall I'd say the price isn't out of line if the paint is good, no rust issues, no real mechanical issues. As with any car, numbers or not, condition is most important. Either can turn into a nightmare if the car isn't sound.
I don't recall what the buyer was looking for, numbers or just a driver. For anyone looking for numbers, this car is not a good candidate.

convertibles are a different breed. I have a # matching base convertible 4 speed manual. It's a blast to drive. The top hasn't been up except a couple of times since I bought it in 2005. burn pure gasoline (93) octane.
