The vinyl on the bottom wraps around the door and is stapled to the back of the panel
I tried not to glue the carpet, but needed to put some in the front area because the door is concave and the carpet can't pull tight. Some glue the entire carpet. We did put some staples along the top edge but really just to hold it in place.
The chrome strip is held with screws through the panel. There are little "teeth" on the chrome that hold the top of the carpet

The upper trim holds the carpet at the top, they staple to the backside of the door panel on the bottom. The hardest part is making sure you get the molding in the correct position to cover the top edge of the carpet. When you are replacing these it's a snap but when you are doing it for the first time on a new door panel it can be a task.
Once we have everything ready to go we then glue the carpet to the panel and install the the trim and staple the back.

replace would be simpler
Doesn't help when the new ones are 1/2" different that originals either.
Can't go by where the new carpet sits
Here's how we over-complicated it
Pulled the carpet strips on and located the carpet/vinyl seam at the door edge, then marked how high they reached with a grease pencil so we knew where the max height was (turns out it was way too high and we didn't need to worry)
Made some cardboard strips that fit the back of the chrome strips and had holes where the mounting dowels are, then trimmed the outside to match the chrome so we had an exact template of the strip and studs that could lay flat on the door nice.
Located the cardboard strips on the door where they looked right (start and stop ends matched the panel, below the carpet line we made etc) and marked the hole locations
Used a dremel and pointed rasp bit to cut the holes undersize and fit the chrome strip on little by little opening up the holes (there's not much covering the hole in some locations) Also the trim is curved to fit the panel so it goes in a little weird
Pulled the carpet on and just trimmed it to clear the holes, installed the chrome and market the carpet. Trimmed the carpet up past the mark so the chrome trim caught the edge
We folded the edge of the vinyl like this
Probably not right but that's not a problem I suffer from
BTW: The studs came through the door panels close to where there were some marks in the inner surfaces (mine are replacements from long ago) but certainly off of where they marked. some up better than 1/4"

This of course led to having to change the kick panels, I think you already saw that....
