Yep pretty sure that it’s a spark plug cleaner. Saw one just like it a few years ago. Now we just replace them but back in the day you claimed it up recapped it and back they went. Ike

A little homage to my friend
Started putting a few things on the wall in the garage. Need to move a few things out of this area.

The original looks badazz on the car, I'd bet that he went with a lower profile later due to problems seeing the light tree, when in the left lane. It is so cool that your finding all this stuff. I grew up in western KY, right in the middle of where Doyle raced. I've been hitting up facebook trying to see if any of my old friends dads remember Doyle or The General. But as you can imagine, those racing guys lived a pretty hard and loose life. So far, no word. These new pics are great, maybe they will jar some memory's.

I vote for the original scoop. The flat one looks too "80s" to me for the car's image. The original is bad-***! Who cares if you can't see over it!

Personally speaking, either hood is cool. Depends on what time frame of the cars history you are restoring it to. If I had my preference, the non snorkle hood.
