WTK PO2's what tires to use with
Getting ready to buy tires and I'm going with the original bias ply. I am planning to use a set of NOS PO2's I have been saving and don't want to make a costly mistake with tire choice. I like white letter Firestones but not sure that would be acceptable. Is there a tire that is considered "correct" for PO2's or is anything on the option list OK? Can't say I ever saw a vintage photo of a vette with white letter tires and PO2's
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi m,
Some people feel P02 caps look best with white stripe tires on a Caprice.

Alan

Just my opinion...but:
RWL tires look best on Rally Wheels; that combo gives the car that "muscle" look.
P02's look best with thin-line {white}wall tires. And, depending on the color combination on your car, that could be white, red, blue, or gold line sidewalls. White will go with any color combo and the car will look "classy". Redline tires are the sportiest look with thin-line tires; goldline tires provide the most luxurious appearance; bluelines were pretty rare but would look good on blue and white cars.
P02's look pretty good with RWL tires, but there's something about that look that doesn't quite get it for me.

I do appreciate the replies. Many people don't even think they're sports cars. The fact that very similar wheel covers were used on many GM models, does detract from their uniqueness. But they are cool and a nice break from the all to common rally's. Back in the day you did not see many vette's with them, they made quite an impression on me when I did. Ben hurish and very different.
Anyway it looks like GM thought they looked best with white walls judging by the advertising. I have all summer to decide so thanks again!

BTW, my car is or about to be the original Donneybrooke green. It's a convertible but It's going to have its body colored hardtop on it most of the time.

Hi m,
It would take some courage but perhaps black-walls?
I think that would get away from the Impala look and be considered more 'sporty'.

Alan

This was helpful and thanks for the input. I think ya'll know where I'm going.
Anyone have a Donneybrooke green Vette with PO2's to show?

Green cars look great with P02's and redline tires. The redlines make the car look more 'sporty' than whitewalls. Goldlines with green car make it look 'classy'.
But, in the end, it's your car so you should do what feel right to you.

Melting Slicks
Just a comment regarding the actaul bias ply tire. I picked up a repop set for my 72' and went with the Goodyears, they cost a little more, but they are actually closer to "correct" than the Firestone reproductions.
