Thanks fellas.
OK, time for a little "Early Saturday AM" automotive for Uncle Ben. LOL...
My car has no alarm, so that eliminates one possibility.
Nor does it have a compartment light.
Where should that compartment light live??? I'll have to add that to my list of "SHTUFF to buy"! LOL...
Now back to that dang alternator/battery wiring...

We rechecked it yesterday, and there's no voltage coming out of the alternator and back to the battery.
Wondering if that chrome alternator can be rebuilt?
Maybe a diode or something needs to be replaced internally?
Also, does anyone know where exactly that compartment light is "supposed" to be located?
Thank You,
Ben N

Gee Thanks "Bubba"...
OK, now I'm getting somewhere... Well I THINK I am anyway...
I removed those wire coverings in hope of getting a better look at where some of these wires go.
I believe the free-hanging white wire went to the other side of the alternator plug that we discussed above, so I re-connected it.
I'm reconnecting things temporarily, to find out what works and what doesn't work, then I'll re-do them permanently.
I also found 3 more free-hanging wires (in addition to that one white wire), but these have connectors attached to them (2 photos attached).
One has a somewhat round connector, that's sitting on the valve cover. It WAS going under the motor by the spark plugs, but doesn't appear to have been connected to anything under there.
The other two come out of the harness on the driver's side wheel-well.
Anyone have any clue as to where they're supposed to connect to???
Thanks Again,
Ben N

That little brown wire, spliced into the white wire with the blue splice in the upper picture is the field wire to the alternator.. Without that alternator terminal seeing voltage (a small amount) the alternator field won't excite and turn the alternator "on". That's why you're seeing battery voltage.. That little brown wire needs to be hooked up.
Same picture, light green wire, if it has a white tracer could be the temp gauge, but the connector looks funny compared to most temp gauge connectors.

Thanks TimAT.
I actually re-connected that short white wire to the other side of the plug-in connector on top of the alternator. Still getting no increase in voltage to the battery.
Possibly a bad alternator???
Still wondering where those two wires/connectors in the bottom pic go.
Also which compartment the light goes (two OTHER wires from a previous pic, behind the seats).
Thx,
Ben N

Time to get out your test light- Key off, should have power at the big red wire on the back of the alternator and the red wire at the harness plug. Key on, same, with the brown wire just making the light on but not real bright. There should also be a black wire coming out of that harness too- it's a ground.
Look at the horn relay, fuse link there and at the starter. Check them too. Past that, yank the alternator and get it tested.
