Default 1977 Turn Signal Switch

I'm down to taking care of the ****ly bits on my 1977.
The turn signal switch works as normal for a left hand turn.
However, for a right hander, the stalk will not lock into place.
I have to hold it in the "up" position for the RH turn signal to flash.
I haven't yet pulled the steering wheel to have a root around in there.

The weather forecast calls for plenty of rain in central Mississippi for this weekend, so this seems like a good rainy day project.
Does anyone have any pointers as to what to look for once I open the patient?

1 year part. Good luck on your search for a new one that doesn't cost a leg and an arm or two.

My research shows that a Chevette part may be converted if a replacement is required.

The obvious low cost solution would be to rework the existing switch.
However, with no reference point I may not be able to decide which components are within specification.

I do not believe that the 1977 turn signal switch is a one year item. I think that it is the same thru 1979. In late 1979 thru 1982 the switch had two extra wires for cornering lights. Those extra wires won't hurt anything because there are no vehicle harness wires in your older model Vette for the wires to connect to.

In 1977 and later there is a crossover arm that connects the switch to the dimmer pivot. The dimmer pivot changed several times from 1977 to 1982. But the switch stayed the same except for the extra cornering lamp wires.

BTW, the 1969 thru 1976 T&T Turn Signal Switches are different from the 1977 and later switches.

Thanks, Jim!
I believe you are correct regarding the 77 - 79 compatibility.
Here's a part I found on the Eckler's website.

Once I disassemble the column, I'll have a better idea as to what's required.
