Parking brake assembly blown up real good
Heard ticking, clanking, a clunk, then a metal-to-metal grind from the right rear yesterday. Got the car home and on jacks. Rotated the wheel and heard a weird metallic click from inside the rotor. Removed the rotor and kurplunk - all the surviving parking brake components, including the shoes - fell out. Check out the pic. Has this happened to anyone else out there?

What I think may have happened is the back side of the rivets that hold the rotor to the spindle weren't removed when someone drilled them out years ago. These pieces have probably been bouncing around in there ever since - until they broke a retainer spring which most likely took out the adjuster.

Did the drum surface survive.....can it be machines smooth or would it be better to buy a new rotor/drum?
