Drifting
Regarding the smiley face intake, some put small freeze plugs in to block the cross over.
But still use the sandwich gaskets!

Great looking car. My 70 convertible is also a green L46. I've owned it 45 years now. I'm relying on my 69 year old, sometimes faulty, memory but I seem to remember the L46 was the only Corvette 350 that didn't have a smog pump. You have one pictured in your number 4 post among all the other pics. Just a thought to consider if you're attempting to recreate a totally stock vehicle. I never realized the 69 green looked so much like the 70 green. Donnybrook Green was a one year only color for 1970.

From what I can find, all 1969 corvettes got smog standard.
That said, the manifolds are tapped for smog and I have the original pump and half the lines that my father removed in the 70s.
Love the green though. Fathom is a great color. Would love to see it new.

After searching previous posts we're both somewhat correct. It seems all 68-69 engines had the A.I.R. smog pump system. In 1970 the only engine with the A.I.R. was the LT1. I remember getting rather upset with myself about 15 years ago because I thought that in my youth I had thrown all the smog equipment away. I did take off a lot of the chrome covers off back in the early 70's when I installed headers. A kind NCRS guy told me not to fret that the A.I.R. pump was not among the discarded items. I did find the box that I had filled with ignition shielding and other unnecessary parts so I reinstalled everything and have a very near stock engine compartment now. I put the original exhaust manifolds back on too. The only thing I left off is the Qjet. I switched to a Holley 650 spread bore in 1973 and still have it on the car. I suppose I'll eventually rebuild the Qjet and reinstall it. I believe the Holley is a much better carb. My gas mileage and performance improved markedly when I changed to the Holley.

Nice! Yeah I don't think I'll be re-smogging the car; but I would like to have it.
I don't think the Holley is a bad carb; they just don't fit the air cleaner lower bowl properly, and I don't like that it's vaccum secondary (at least the one I had). It also was electric choke which I didn't really care for; the car seems to actually work better with the hot air setup.
That said, I couldn't tell you about mpg unless you were commonly getting into the secondaries on the qjet being its mechanical. With a vaccum secondary setup it's easier to stay running on the first two.
At WOT though, a Qjet will outflow a 650 if it has the engine under it. The Qjet is a 780cfm carb with massive secondaries. They just will only open as much as your engine will draw the upper plates downward.

New pictures for those following along.
Got new historical plates. I guess they only give you one now; so I removed the front bracket and trim and packaged it away. Likely going to get a set of 1969 plates and exchange/register them to my historical tag.
Dealing a little bit with some light pinging at WOT. I think I'll need to recurve the distributor. There's only 4 degrees initial in it, and I have to check total. I think it was like 26 without the advance. Tried blocking off the vaccum advance; it does help a little; so I'm at least moving in the right direction.
Anyhow, took dad for a ride now that the car is running super strong. He was loving it as its probably the best it's ever run. Here are some phone snaps from our adventure.
