Very impressive effort.

I've got a nice variety of screws holding the interior together. There were a couple wood screws holding the center gauge cluster in before I replaced the upper dash pad. I want to get the screw set but probably won't bother until I replace the lower two dash pads.

I put a new cap and rotor on on Monday, but that didn't help the issue I'm having, but it does seem to idle smoother at traffic lights now.

We've had a wildfire going on not too far from my house since Monday. I could see the flames shooting up over the top of the mountain for a few minutes while I was working on the car. Fortunately it seems to be moving away from my area.

Good to hear the fire isn't heading your way, man I hate wildfires, same thing happened to us few months ago, the fire came within about a mile of the house. We chose to evacuate because right down the road mandatory evacs were ordered. Worst part was having to leave the vette because it wasn't running at the time. So we camped out at a safe distance(picture below), not knowing if after all that work the next time I saw my the car it'd be a scorched skeleton. That was ROUGH, but thank God the fire changed directions, and when I saw that vette again, boy she never looked so good.

Glad you didn't lose anything. I can't imagine losing everything like that, especially the vette. Fortunately this fire seems to not be moving towards more heavily populated areas. Only 8 houses were burned last I heard.

I decided I didn't care for the body color "bumperettes" anymore and painted them black today. The paint bled under the masking tape a bit but it's not as bad as I expected.

I installed a new spring on my clutch fork today. If all goes well, I should have my 4 speed swap mostly done by the end of the weekend.

Thanks doorgunner, I hope you're able to make more progress on your chrome bumper conversion soon.

Update:

My dad and I pulled the TH350 out today and got the flywheel, clutch, and bellhousing installed. Surprisingly, when we checked the alignment of the bellhousing, it was within .004" with the stock dowels. Now I can return the offset ones I ordered just in case. I'm glad I bought an original GM bellhousing. This project is going way too well so far, hopefully it will stay that way.

I didn't do a very good job of taking photos today, but my dad and I got everything back together. The clutch won't disengage though. When I bought the z bar, it came with a longer adjustable clutch fork push rod, but I installed the "correct" one and evidently it's too short. I could have changed it in about 5 minutes but I just didn't feel like it. On the bright side, once we remembered to make a jumper for the neutral safety switch, my new mini starter worked and sounded better than the old starter.

I have been away from this thread for a while but it looks like you are making good progress!!

I had to laugh, I hope you're not keeping that transmission like that! Everything else is nice and clean and new looking, and the transmission is all greasy...

Thanks kubs. The transmission is pretty filthy but for now it's gonna stay that way. It doesn't match the engine but it matches the rest of the underside of the car perfectly haha.

Good work. My factory bellhousing measured out at .004" too. Saves some hassle!

Its really neat to see this progress, especially on something where it would be so easy to drag on or delay for awhile. The black on the bumper is a really nice touch as well, really contrasts well with the paint

Thanks guys.

I swapped out the rod tonight and got the clutch working properly, and took it for a couple laps around the block. It feels nice to have a car with a manual trans again. I need to replace the speedometer gear now because the speedometer seems to be a bit slow.

Good job!! if that's the stock linkage you may want to put the anti rattle springs on it. Mine makes all sorts of noise when the springs aren't on it
