Default 68 fan shroud on later radiator

This is probably a simple question, but I have a late '70's radiator, core support and hacked-up plastic shroud in my '68. I acquired a metal '68 fan shroud (which I like the looks of). So, question one, can I use the '68 shroud with the 77+ radiator and core support? And question two, if I can, should I or is there a reason not to?
Thanks,
Eric

The stock 68 shroud should fit your 68 with the stock bracketry and related hardware.

From Paragon's catalog, mine looks most like this:

And, yes it's a small block car. It seems to me that it should bolt the same way at the top (maybe?) and it looks like the metal one attaches to the front crossmember somehow. But I can't tell for sure.

68-69 had a special metal pan that the shroud bolted to. I think that 70-72 had two special brackets that the round metal 4-speed shroud bolted to. I hope that you realize that the full width plastic shroud will cool the radiator better than the smaller round one that was for the small 4-speed aluminum radiator that was a carry-over from the 63-67's, and used the round expansion tank. the metal unit has a mounting point at the bottom pan, you would have to fabricate a bracket.
I agree the metal version, will not cool as well as the plastic/ fiberglass version.

I know the '68 wasn't the coolest-running car but I was hoping the larger later radiator would help enough that I could still get away with the original-looking shroud.
But now that I'm digging into it, the metal was just for 4-speed cars? Mine was originally a 4-speed, but somebody switched to an auto (probably the same genius that put the '74 front clip and lambo doors on it...). So, does that mean I'm doubly screwed for the metal?
I can stay with the plastic shroud if I have to, but it's had a sawzall taken to it in a few places and looks like crap. Maybe I need to look for a new one like it??

3 and 4 speed without factory air.

Not necessarily.
