Default 18" and 20" Rally wheels

Hi All

I was at a swap meet on the weekend and a guy had some aluminium wheels styled after the original rally wheels on my 72 Convertible. They looked pretty good and they take the original rally hub caps too.

I've seen them before in 17" but now they have them in 18" and 20" sizes.

I'm building mine as a resto mod with LS power etc but want to keep the outside looking pretty stock. The thought of alloy rally wheels in sizes to take modern rubber is appealing though. They would also allow me use some big 360mm 2 piece rotors and brembo mono block calipers I have on the shelf.

Has anyone seen a set of 18" or 20" version installed on a C3? My worry is the car will look like a bit of a roller skate with the big wheels and low profile tyres (Overall diameter is still the same as the 15" wheels).

Cheers

Mike

Just my opinion but I think oversized wheels on a corvette make it look like a pimps ride.

IMHO 20" is approaching clown car territory, or pimp ride, take your pick. There's an 18" wheel thread, have a look there.

I have seen them before in 18's in chrome. They actually don't look bad. You are not getting the big brakes on with 15" rims, that's for sure. Now you'll have to excuse me while I get back to my Ho's.

Google search "Year One" and you will find their rally wheels in 17 inch for a pretty decent price point. I think American racing wheels also make rally wheels in 18 at a higher price point.

I agree the look of the rally wheels in 17 or 18 inch is nice because you can use more modern tires. I bought 18 inch Ridler wheels in the classic "Torq Thrust" style but did not know about the larger Rally wheels at the time. If I had I would have gone with them instead.

18 and 20 Rally Wheels have been around for a while. The 18s would work fine especially with a tire with some sidewall (a 40 or 45 series depending on how wide). The 20s would leave you with a very short sidewall and the wheels get heavy hurting performance.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I have to say the 18s with the redwalls look pretty good. I think I'll be abe to fit the big brakes inside an 18" wheel OK.

That car is the pretty much the look as I was thinking about (stock exterior with just a change to stance and modern sized rally wheels).

I'll be repainting mine in its original Bryar blue.

Cheers

Maybe not - they are alloy. BUT, the tire will be wider and yes, also heavier.

But unless you track your car and are at a high level skills wise, it would be hard to notice.

Those are the ones I was thinking of by American Racing. The Year One wheels are 17". I have not seen the Year One wheels in person. So no way to vouch for them.

The AR ones looks fantastic BTW !

I found these on eBay. They look pretty good and the price is pretty not too bad.

They look nice, shame the re 4.5" backspace.

Perfect for Camaro or impala but 4" would be better for Vette.

Not sure what brand Jethro has on his yellow 69.

Secondly, and it's just my humble opinion, some wheel designs, while EXCELLENT LOOKING in a 15" size, just don't "scale up" well, to a larger diameter....

I'll third that. I hate that the tire industry is turning their back on 15" wheels...

Buy from a reptuable place with a good return policy finding aftermarket wheels that are straight, round and balance out seems to be a problem these days. Went through a bunch to get one set that was "ok".

Fourth.

I guess i dont understand the interest in anything resembling stock once you start putting 18 & 20 inch wheels on your Corvette. It's something else at that point.
