I'm not sure you're right about them rapidly becoming that way. I remember the hideous body kits from the 70s and 80s such as the Testa Rossa strakes, the Greenwood bodies and such. I'm sure many of those have been rebodied back to original in the last decade or so. I'm not referring to the actual Greenwood cars but to the body kits that replicated the Greenwood look. When the 73 model came out I was tempted to change my egg crate side vents to the much cleaner 73 vents. I'm happy that I decided not to do it. I even remember a few chrome bumper cars being converted to plastic back in the old days. Sacrilege now, but it happened. Who knew?
