Default 1971 tighten rear view mirror on door

Hello,
Can someone please help me to tighten the rear view mirror on the door for 1971? Looks like a mini star wrench screw in the mirror but it does not want to turn. Thanks

Hi jb,
The original 71 mirrors used an allen headed bolt to secure the base to the door bracket…. is that allen head what you're describing as a star?
If it is, have you sprayed some penetrant on the screw head to help you break it loose?
Regards,
Alan

How do you repair a loose mirror when the screw is already turned all the way in?

I don't think tightening the set screw will tighten the mirror, it just holds it in the mount.

If the mirror base still has movement, make sure the gasket is present between it and the car.

I put a reproduction mirror on one of my cars recently. The set screw must be properly aligned to allow it to fully tighten. Remove the mirror and look at the mounting bracket to see how the screw fits through the bracket Make sure the set screw is going through both holes. The reproduction screws are not as well machined as the originals but they do work. If you have the correct angle with your screw you will be able to turn it until it is well below the edge of the mirror and it should tighten down.

On my 73, I had to file down the top of the mounting plate to allow the mirror to sit closer to the body:
