2,416 Mile Trip To The Mountains Including a 1,08 Mile Iron Butt
That SHOULD BE A 1,008 MILE IRON BUTT!
Suzi Q and I just got back from a 2,416 mile trip to Rocky Mountain National Park from Tinley Park, Illinois.
I always drive straight through to Estes Park, CO, backing my sleep up so that I get up at 8:00 pm on a Saturday night Chicago time, take a cold shower, drink a couple Diet Mountain Dews, and then hit the road. As you get deeper into Saturday night and into Sunday morning, there is no traffic, no construction, and no State Troopers. For me, especially with the Corvette and the 24 gallon gas tank, it is an easy 14-hour, 2 gas-stops only trip. That is what I did with the Corvette for this trip too, and it was completely comfortable the whole drive. No rain for the entire 8-day trip!
My Wife flew to Denver, took the shuttle to the hotel in Estes, and I met her there. On this trip, she got there before me, checked into the hotel, walked two blocks to the liquor store to buy some wine, two blocks in the other direction to pick up some tacos and enchiladas, and, as I pulled up to the hotel, she was sitting on the deck next to the hot tub, with a glass of wine for her and me, and food spread out on the table..... Heaven after a 14-hour drive!
I got 18-20 mpg the whole trip, and the Corvette performed flawlessly. I bought it last October with only 3,340 one owner miles on it, and it now has 9,130 miles as of today. This is my first Corvette, and I'm thinking about purchasing a nice used C-7 as well.
I Love My Corvette!

Very cool! I've taken my 79 on a 5 hour trip many times, but not nearly that far. I'd love to drop a 5 speed in mine to lower rpms and go on some really long trips.
