What do the correct floor mats for a 72 Corvette look like?
I have floor mats that look to be from an older C3. They are getting a bit worn, and was thinking of getting some new ones. Anyone have pictures of the correct looking floor mats? Any suggestions for a vendor?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I got these from Willcox for my 1974. They told me Chevrolet didn't install floor mats, they were a dealer installed option and these are the correct reproductions? The only color they came in was black. Driver side fits nice, passenger side not as well.

Hi,
I've always thought that the $8.00 optional floor mats that were offered each year were especially nice.

Alan

This is what mine look like, sans the color. The thing that amazes me is that the floor mats don’t really cover much of the floor.

Hi Barry,
There were clear plastic mats very similar to the black rubber mats I posted the picture of.
I think they were actually intended for mid-year cars but fit the 68+ cars too.
They turned an opaque yellow very quickly!!
The rubber mats were so soft the heel of the driver's right shoe quickly wore a hole in the mat.
The clear plastic mats were easily scratched by almost anything… it seemed to me to have been made from a material similar to the back window on a convertible
Regards,
Alan

Hi Craw,
The shape of the driver's side mat allows the lower part of the clutch pedal arm hit the carpet AND wear a hole in the carpet.
I see that hole on some but not all original carpet. I think in depended somewhat on just how the carpet underlayment was placed as whether a hole was worn or not.
Regards,
Alan
Original carpet… the heel and dimmer pads were moved to new carpet.

I had the carpeted ones on the last interior, liked them and all but wanted to try something different this time around.
Checked around about the clear version and the general consensus was like Alan says, they go yellow really quickly. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...loor-mats.html
Mick71 hooked me up with a black set he had and it worked out
Drivers side fits pretty good, (especially considering the hushmat and reflectex under the carpet)
Passenger side has a couple of bulges along the inside edge, nothing a bit of time with a heat gun shouldn't fix (maybe that can be a job for the winter)
Look fine for my purposes

Why is the one side so much longer? I ordered a set from Ecklers that looks the same.
Oh, I see on the later pics in posts!

Hi M,
I 'think' the poor fit on the passenger's side mat may be caused by the added fiberglass 'lump' in the transmission tunnel for the automatic transmission clearance.
I guess it's just too much to have expected Chevrolet to have a set for 4-speed cars and automatic cars.
Regards,
Alan

I warmed it up today with a heat gun and got 2 of the 3 bulges out. I'm not 100% sure I can get the one closest to the floor/foot area transition completely out but it's closer.
Once the sit for a day or so I'll maybe have another go
