Default 68 Door Hinge Spring

Hello,

I bought a set of springs for the corvette and the package list the application from 68 to 82. As you can see in the picture this spring on the left is two long compared to the original one on the right. It appears that the 68 spring may be a one year only part and the vendor didn't know it. Does anyone know where to get the correct length spring?
Thanks,
Don

I'm thinking you have to cut the long one like 1/8 of an inch

don't see how cutting the spring will help. will make it shorter, fit will be worse.

Hi Don,
I may be wrong but I believe the other part of the hinge (the part that's mounted in the door) needs to be in place (hinge pin inserted) to properly install the hinge spring.
The free end of the hinge spring in your photo rides against the 2 'stops' on the other part of the hinge.
Regards,
Alan

I believe there was different spring for the 68? The spring on the right side hinge is original and the one on the left is the replacement that came in the package shown. Are the hinges for the 69-82 hinges wider? If so, I may have to replace the hinge itself if it will fit my 68.
Thanks again, Don

I bought a set of springs last winter for my early 68. They worked great. I got them from ecklers or corvette central. They worked fine. Your new one isnt shaped correctly at the top so it maybe a bad spring from the factory or for a different vehicle. I would return it and look for another. I hate pro lems like this

Is the width of the hinge the same left to right? If so, then you should return the S spring and get a correct one.

Over the years there have been issues with them being to long and short. We keep an original spring on the shelf to check stock for accuracy as it arrives.

The spring is too long. I compared my hinge to a later model hinge and they were the same. As far as sending it back I have had it too long as I tend to buy things way in advance, besides it would cost about as much to send it back as what its worth.

I'll be calling today to place an order.
