70' Rebuild has begun

The date code for the fan, has an alpha character for the month and two numerals for the year. It would be like Christmas to find an original. I've been looking as well I need a C70. The closest date that I've acquired is F71.

70 fan
Now my 1970 is a 350/300 AT/PB/PS/PW & A/C and it has a 5 blade fan and clutch.
But the manuals say it needs a 7 blade (3955182) Vs a 5 blade (3888566)
The discussion on this is amazingly dizzying to say the least am I chasing my tail ? I kinda think I am based on what I'm now finding.
If you are not a NCRS member I could e-mail the quotes I've kept or will continue to find. I'm completely miffed now. Great

Your right on the tire, it's just an "old" used tire. I found that standard tires issued were black wall F70x15. Whitewalls and raised- white-letters were extra cost options.
More information can be found on this via 2nd Edition Corvette 68'-82' Restoration Guide.
Thanks for your input, I'm sure I'll need your support along the way as I venture further into my restoration.

From my '72 5 tyres white lettered for the princely sum of $43

Hi,
Remember that many parts were made in 'batches' by suppliers.
So there may be LONG spans between the dates on some parts, especially if they were parts that weren't installed on many cars.
A good example of this is carburetors for rare applications where often months passed between the assembly of a batch of a specific carburetor.
Regards,
Alan
With out realizing it folks can be looking for a part with a specific date that NEVER existed.

Slow day at work allowed me to go through from start to finish
Have you got any thoughts on time frame to get the whole thing done ?

Hi bv,
Remember the body was being assembled and painted at the same time the frame and running gear were being assembled.
I believe the typical time the car was on the line was about 2 days.
Weekends/Holidays would stretch that period out.
There was also something called 'heavy repair' that could delay when the car finally left the plant.
Regards,
Alan

Good to know but I was interested if the PO had a goal to get this project finished ?
Cheers,

So after further investigation my original 5 blade fan with clutch is dated 2-16-70 followed by the letters SC.
Now knowing in early 1970 5 blade fans were used for cars with A/C i'm sticking with what I have. To hell with the 7 blade. It was sent back and I was granted full credit, which is a very good thing. Here's my original 5 blade.

Hi C,
Nice clear photos.
I believe the date is for the fan clutch… the SC being Schwitzer Corporation.
When dated the fan blades were stamped on one of the blades. It's possible that the 5 blade fans were not typically date stamped as the 7 blade fans were.

I now fully understand "why" rebuilding a car can take longer than one first imagines. But I'm back at it and still enjoy the process. Was able to remove the AC/Heat Plenum yesterday. I know I will reinstall this "before" I drop the body back on the car. I'll post a few pictures now and interior assembly later today.
1970 A/C coil
1970 Fan ( Metal )
1970 Heater coil before removal
1970/Fan Intake/Plenum Opening on Engine side Firewall

You are 100% correct on it takes longer then you would think. I have been on mine for 4 years now and starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Life gets in the way also, I have taken a few breaks along the way...
Looking great...

Hey guy, You've now got me going...... I just found a very interesting thread on NCRS.org /thread titled....70 7 Blade Fan.
Great

Drifting
Since that time I've mulled over numerous directions on my rebuild and I may ( still mulling ) choose to go with a radiator ( which I need to replace ) and electric fan assembly. BTW, I paid $ 400.00 dollars for the 7 blade only to find it didn't fit the WP shaft bolts ( different bolt pattern), I'm convinced that the 5 blade was for 300hp/350hp w A/C and the 7 blade for the 454 w A/C could also have been a supply side issue early in 70'. The company allowed the return of the unit because I was in need of another item. Worked out.
Thank you for your input though.

I put my AC back while the body was on, and fortunately while engine was still out. It wasn't that bad, but there are more pleasant things. We have two 1970 Corvettes apart currently and have been that way since around 1995. I'm trying to spur progress on them again, now that my car is together.
If you can get a few things done each week, you will get there.
