Not sure what my next move is, find out soon I hope.
As for the "matching numbers", who knows it may go back in.

WOW- that sux...
Here's what you do-
1) Get a bunch of plastic straws ( Might have to go to Nevada!!!)
2) Fire up the hot glue gun and make a engine out of them- just like the gun below
3) Take it to the BAR- and see if it will qualify for "zero emissions!"
Last I heard- this was a double felony in California!!!

Since your Corvette was build prior to model year 1976 (1975 and older), in California your Corvette is smog exempt.
You should be able to replace your current engine with any year you want.
You will not need to get a smog certification every other year nor get a smog certification before you sell it.
You do not need to notify DMV if you swap the engine for a new one.
Don't just take my word for it.
Do your research and when you find what you can do under the law, pull the plug on that new motor or get your's rebuilt and enjoy.

The speed and machine shop here in Napa, has been building all types of racing and classic car engines for over 50 years.
Ive seen some amazing stuff go out their door that gets shipped all over the world.
They are also the go to guys for the local Corvette speciality shop and car clubs.
Small family run business you can trust.
If you have any questions on what they would build for you and the cost, contact John at LJ’s Speed and Machine (707)255-4611.
If you call them let John know I referred you.

I went with Vintage air- not running hot water in the passenger cabin and added heater seats if I ever drive it when it's chilly...
This is what I did- made a form out of roof flashing (can cut with scissors) and the 3m foil tape- spray it with canola oil ( wife /girlfriend or both) probably has some in the kitchen. Then laid some fiberglass on it- sealed it with silicone sealer
I also fiberglassed in the upper holes for 'fresh air' - its really not fresh if you have an open l88/cowl hood.
BTW- "thanks" for the Corvette Wiki link- I "liked" it!!!
