6x9s in dash of my 78 or another option? Brackets for 6x9s?
Morning all!!!!
I am getting ready to put my dash back in my 78,
I am going to run an amp and nice 6x9s in the back, possibly a sub. It has flowmasters and is pretty loud lol.
I am interested in putting the 6x9s in the dash or open to suggestions. I see that corvette america has a kit but you have to buy the entire kit. bezel, radio etc.
Has any one done this? If so how did you install the brackets to hold 6x9s? Thanks in advance

6X9's will never fit the stock dash, there's just not enough room. But not to worry, a good pair of 4X6's will sound just fine driven by a clean amp with enough power. I'm using these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P0NJOO...L81WNFS4&psc=1 and they sound fantastic as part of a system with a 5 channel amp and a speaker box with sub in the back. You will have to modify both the dash and the speakers to fit but it's worth it.
Also what did you do about boxes in the rear? and spekers for that matter. You mentioned you had a 5 channel amp. I will have to keep room for the t tops to be in the back.

FWIW, here's what I did. Installed 10" sub in rear and two shallow depth 6-1/2" in kick panels. Hooke up to 4-channel JL Audio amp. Bridged two channels to run sub. The amp was small enough to fit in the tray above the jack storage. You could use tweeters also to replace the dash speakers in conjunction with the kick panel speakers.

My t-tops won't fit in the cargo area because of the speaker box but I've got a V-54 t-top carrier. The 4X6's fit in from the top but will need trimmed as well as the opening. If not driven by a good amp they just won't sound as good, In my case the difference was night and day.

I don't have pics, but I put a 10" Clarion sub in a 1.08cf box (1.0cf required). It's a slimline unit, about 3" thick. I used a pair of Polk Audio components. The midrange is in the kick panels, and the tweeters are behind the seat, on the rear panel, below ear level. I have a Pioneer head unit and a 4 channel Sony 100 watt (I think) amp.
I am very impressed with the musical quality of these components. They sound pretty good together. I've done a few stereos in my time too.
I was doing the complete interior, and had everything taken out, so it was very easy at the time.
I have a USB plug for iPod, and XM also.
