Default Exhaust help - Magnaflow vs Flowmaster

Hello once again! Everyone here has been very helpful thus far in my Corvette build. Next step for me is exhaust and I've been doing a LOT of reading up on Magnaflow vs Flowmaster. I'm looking for a deep low rumbling sound - something that sounds like a good muscle car at idle and when accelerating (but not obnoxiously loud, if that makes sense).

My Vette is a 72, base 350 (200hp), 4 speed. When I bought the car in 2015, it had only 68k original miles. The exhaust on it now is the Midas special (literally).

I was looking for the same sound on my 81. I ended up with Pypes Violator. Like them a lot.

I went from Flowmaster to Magnaflow. Flowmaster has that classic hotrod sound.

Too loud for me though.

I have MagnaFlows and love them. I started out with the Corvette Central system which includes 14" MF's which was great but then wanted something a little louder so I switched out to 11" MF and they are awesome. MagnaFlows have a great low rumble.

Hi Trey, our mufflers do a great job of bringing out that deep vette tone while having better flow characteristics due to their straight-through design. If we can help you at all in choosing the correct size, please PM us!

I have Flow Master on my '68 Z28 and Magna Flow on my '81 Vette. I like the Flow Master of the Z28 more than the Magna Flow. I also have under car chambered exhaust on my '64 Vette, and it is too loud. Sounds good at idle and light throttle but too loud after that. I will probably change that soon.

I have the Magnaflow system on my 73, everyone comments on how nice it sounds.
I had to modify the tips to fit my stainless tips instead of the turn-down tips that came on the kit.

Later I replaced the old manifolds with nice 2-1/2" ones

I'll kind of reiterate what everyone here is saying... I had Flowmaster 40s on my mildly modded 79. Replaced them with Thrush Welded, virtually identical sound. Deep rumble at idle, sound great when you get on it, but just a little loud in the cabin on the highway. I switched to MagnaFlow over the summer. They have a nice sound at idle, definitely quiter than the Thrush or the Flowmasters. But I'm not really thrilled with the overall sound. Just not as "meaty". I'll probably end up going back to thw Thrush. I don't think you can beat them for the money. But I'll stay with the MagnaFlow for now and see if they grow on me, and possibly the sound will deepen a little as I get more miles on them.

I really like my Flowmasters. I told them I wanted the quietest Flowmaster they had in 2.5". I get compliments all the time on the sound, yes even my neighbors like it! LOL:

Magnaflow used my 1980 Corvette in 2008 as a template to make there late model C3 exhaust and it sounds amazing! To this day it still looks new.

So what would it take to get Richard Waitas to come to my house and build my exhaust system? LOL!

I am running headers and Magnaflows on my 72 and it has a nice rumble at idle and really wakes up when you hit the throttle but not excess noise like Flowmasters. You can even "Almost" hear the radio !

i have Magnaflow's on my 81 Vette. I really like them.

I had the same exhaust on a non cammed engine (same car),, to quiet,, like stock.
engine i have now has mild-level cam, much louder !

what i am getting at is,, i believe both mufflers (magnaflow and flowmaster) are good and, their sound will vary based on a number of factors. Cam makes a big difference.
