Define "get them off the shelves". There were no extra or end of year leftover engines at St. Louis.

A 425 horsepower, 454 cubic inch engine would have likely been the LS6 engine.
This pretty special engine was available as an option during the 1971 model year production.
The likelihood of it being installed in a 1973 model year car at St.Louis is likely nil.
Are you aware of some new information?

It is very possible that some '73 BB owners might have replaced a 'base' BB engine with an over-the-counter dealer-sold Hi-perf BB engine. But, none came from the factory with the LS6 engine.
