Default Big block hood insulation install

Trying to install a new piece of hood insulation on a 69 big block car. Hood still has the 3 retainer pins and I have the 3 big flat washer retainers so that is all good.

I have ordered and received the "correct" hood insulation from 2 different suppliers and they are both exactly the same shape and neither one is anywhere close to fitting the shape of the hood. I understand that on an original, one side is cut shorter for some reason, but for me to get this to fit, I am going to have to cut quite a bit of material just to get it to fit around the depressions for the chrome trim pieces.

What is up with this insulation?? I found a couple of other threads that had similar experience, but haven't found any solutions other than cutting to fit. By the time I trim the insulation to fit, there won't be much left.

Anybody got any advice or solutions? Are these current "correct" reproductions really the same shape as the originals?

Interesting my March 69 BB car has insulation. But its not the entire hood but just the front section by fan shroud area. I was going to replace what I had cause it looked a little beat up. I assumed how could aftermarket companies mess up this small piece.
But now you are making me rethink this idea.
Which places have you looked at for replacement insulation ?

My car is a late November 68 build date, I actually went ahead and installed the insulation today, the 2 pieces I had were cut identical, and I went ahead and modified one of them to fit as good as possible. I trimmed around the depressions for the chrome trim, and cut one edge slightly so it was basically parallel with the hood frame. It looks OK, but I can't believe GM would have designed the originals to fit like this. It ain't rocket science but it does have a complex surface curvature.

My sources were Corvette Arizona for one piece, and Corvette America for the other. They were identical shape, slightly different material. I am done with this crap, going to return the extra one and move on to bigger and better things.

FWIW: the 68-69 NCRS Judging Guide says the insulation was used "sporadically" until late in production when it was discontinued. The Vette Vues Fact Book 1968-1972 has a picture of the insulation (page 88) and says it was used on "some" 69s.

With or without, each of your cars is likely to be correct.

I received my hood insulation today. This part does not fit in any sense that I can fathom. It doesn't match the shape of my rough original and the Pre-drilled holes are off by inches?
I got mine from Willcox but I believe they get theirs for corvette america.

Unless, I am doing something wrong, this is probably the worst item I have bought aftermarket.
Please inform me if there is some fix that I can't figure out.

I'd be ashamed to be selling these if I was a Vendor here.

I believe that I bought my hood insulation from Paragon in 2009. Here is a picture of it now. Not sure what your problem is with the fit, but this went right in.

Chopped mine up last night to get to fit. It looks okay.
On a side note, It looks like the insulation is from paragon not corvette america via willcox. I noticed it on the paperwork last night.

The green insulation side is exposed. My original insulation was that way. The black backng is against the hood. It is not symmetrical....because the engine does not sit in the center of the car.
