Big block water pump 3 groove pulley. For cheap.
I needed one for my 72 with a 502. When I saw the price they were at $215 and more I decided to find a used one. One came up on E Bay for $95 and I scooped it up. Thinking I had a good deal there.
When I cleaned the paint off of it the part number I found was 90840. I looked it up and found out it was from a Mercruiser boat engine.
It fit perfectly on my big block, the belt lined up. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you sat one next to the other. I can post a picture if needed.
The best part is I over paid for mine at $95. Maybe because he advertised it as a BB Corvette one. They sell on there for between $50 and $75.
I don't know if anyone else found this, I did a search and nothing came up. I hope it helps guys doing a BB swap.

Dang and this is good to know. Wish I had known this 6 months ago when I bought the 3 groove pulley for $200. Looked all over and finally bit the bullet, sucked it up and paid the price as I had to have one. I wonder how much stuff out there is just like this. Thanks for the info.

I wonder what the brackets look like.

I remember seeing this thread months ago and just passed it along to another member yesterday who was looking for the 3 groove vette pulley. Saved him some $$$. Thanks for the tip.

A good thread to revive. People doing a big block swap and needing the 3 groove water pump pulley that is expensive. This is a cheaper alternative and it works.

FYI, the early 70 and older BB 3 groove used a smaller water pump hub bolt pattern making the use of the original water pump and fan clutch impossible, unless of course you drill the pulley for the smaller pattern. The BB water pump rebuild kits include, apparently, a multi bolt pattern hub though, but there still is the fan clutch problem. Got my kit from CC. Had to fix this cobbled mess last summer, welded the holes up and drilled new to save $.
