Torq Thrust TT0's on C3 Race Cars
#21
You Need 8mm (7.5) to clear the calipers for the 8.5 x 15 TTO's. I have them on my car. I achieved the 7.5mm by running a 5mm hubcentric spacer since the hub bore of the wheel is larger than the original Corvette wheel hub (this way the wheel is centered perfect and does not only Center itself over the wheel studs/nuts, and I had from each wheel the back of the spokes professionally machined (notched) 2.5mm. Tires are 225 front and 235 back. Fits perfect! There is no rubbing or tire thread sticking out. If I would put 255's in the back and 235's in the front, then there might be... If the German "Polizei" wouldnt be so strict, I would have run 255 in the back, but the tire thread is not allowed to go past the Fender lip when you look from the top... German car technical inspection regulations are VERY strict on that stuff, LOL

Thats why i run them! Makes a huge difference when the wheel is perfectly centered by the spacer to its exact hub bore! The 1971 Corvette hub is 71.1mm as the hub bore of the new AR TTO wheel is 83.06mm in Diameter!

Awesome! Thank you! What we really need is for American to provide this nifty 360 spins feature for the Torq Thrusts that they have on some of their other wheels. Check it out at the bottom of the 504 page http://www.americanracing.com/wheel/35996/vn504

I agree, Daisy's (VN504) are very sexy wheels and they make them to custom specs! This way no spacers are required. There is Forum member that is running them on his early C3 (red one) with 10 x 15 in the back and 8x15 in the front. No flares, Looks great!!

I love the American 200S wheels (the "daisy" wheels). I had them on my 62 for many years. From what I remember, I think as many or more, road racers used the 200S wheels in the late 60's and 70's, then used the Torque Thrusts.
The 200S was quite common in the Trans-Am from 67-72. The factory teams all ran Minilites, but many of the privateers and lower buck teams, ran the 200s wheels. A lot of guys racing A and B Production Corvettes in the early 70's, ran the 200S wheels too.
I had the chrome plated version on my 62, the 200CP, which is no longer made. Here's a picture of my 62, taken in the early 80's at Pocono Speedway. These were 15x7's, with GR70X15's (same as today's P225/70R15).

Are you committed to American Racing? Vintage wheel works makes a good wheel in the tt style.

This is a VERY nice looking wheel, I like them even better then my TTO's VN 309. Wish the would produce this wheel larger than 8 Inch x 15. I would like at least 8.5 or 9 Inch x 15 for the rear. But this wheel Looks great!

Wilwood brakes supplies this clearance diagram on line as reference to check fitment on all wheels. Does anyone have anything like this for OEM calipers? I would think that the most important measurements would be the center line of wheel to outer edge of the calipers (ref 7.08), the center line of wheel to inner edge of the calipers (ref 3.54), wheel mounting surface to outer edge of caliper (ref .60) and clearance radius of the caliper (ref 1.75). These Wilwood calipers are designed and advertised to fit with stock 15" X 8" rally wheels with 4" BS for Corvettes.

I'm currently building my 75 for autocross (CAM-S) and want to put some better wheels and tires on it. I have been looking at the TTD forums and it seems the largest size now available is 16", can anyone confirm that? For more aggressive driving I want to have a little less sidewall than the 255/60R15's I currently have. The TT's are a classic look but I want to do either a 17" square or a 17"/18" staggered setup to maintain a visually well filled wheel-well. I'm open to suggestions and persuading one way or another. Unfortunately, it seems the TTD's are out then. Does anyone run the newer TTII, TTO, or TTM's and if so, any fitment issues with stock calipers?
Also, any autocross guys have tire suggestions? Been looking at the BFG G-Force Rival 1.5 S and the Falken Azenis RT615. Trying to stay at the 200 tread wear so I don't risk class changes.
