Hello,

I'm curious to find out opinions on how realistic Hagarty values are? Do you guys believe its inflated or do they undervalue cars these days?

Where is a good place to get a realistic value on classic cars these day?

I believe there are 2 values.

1. The insurance company values your car to determine your rate.
2. What someone else will pay to buy your car.

Neither are realistic and vary,

What I would like to see is a corporate registry that shows how many corvette's change ownership each year, and what the selling price is.

I would like to do a search in my city to see how many corvette sell each year.

My insurance went with stated value which I got from a written appraisal which was similar to hagertys. NOM 68 convertible 4speed, $24k. Paid $19k.

I just went through the buying process to get my '72 LT-1. Hagerty's seemed to be the most accurate and realistic on values based on what I saw for sale. You have to pay close attention to the condition levels on Hagerty's site and apply them realistically.

I have mine with an agreed upon value and over the years they have increased that value. I feel it's high but ok with me.

I guess the value they put on a car and the value the customer has in his mine based on the condition will never match. IE, a lot of people will feel they have a concourse car but in actuality it is average.

I just looked at what Hagerty values are of mine and I know what I'd sell it for, however being realistic both are high to the market.

So to answer your question... get an independent appraisal if you really want to know the value.

I had a 71 appraised and it came out very close to the Hagerty value, however, in their condition descriptions I didn't see any mention of original parts and that can make a huge difference in value so I would say it's hit and miss. If you ask appraisers about it they just laugh, but what would you expect them to say?
