Been trying to come up with a temporary solution to quiet down side pipes with max flows. The wife wants them quieter...but I'm not ready to give them up permanently.
I don't want to pull the pipes off each time to either install or remove. There is plenty of space at the end to put some sort of baffle, but thought I would see if anyone has already come up with a solution.
I found the Vortex cone baffles, which don't seem to get very good reviews. Plus, they are pricey for what they are.
The only other solution I can come up with is a baffle that will insert into the max flow center chamber. I believe the diameter is 2.5". I would weld a "stop" on the end to prevent it from getting lost in there and come up with a solution to keep it from exiting on it's own.

I'd be interested in seeing the results or maybe you should just bite the bullet and put reverse flows in there. I'm just glad my wife tolerates the max flows.
I installed the Car Chemistry insert for my Toyota Tacoma. They were fantastic !
For my C3, i have the spiral inserts into the side pipes which was still too loud for my wife's taste. I added a single wrap of stainless steel wool which was made for mufflers around the spirals and it worked perfect. Slightly quieter but still very noticeable.
Best part is i can take it out anytime i want for open side pipes.

I just...can't...do it. Haha
Thanks for the link Bakaruda - they have quite a few options. 2-4 disc inserts. There is a "silencer" version, but not sure if that is necessary since I am adding them to an existing muffler.
I am going to shoot them an email and see what they think.

Are you pulling the pipes off each time? I'm hoping to come up with a 5 min install/removal process.
Also, just to double check - anyone have the inside diameter of max flow inserts handy? I found a thread a while back saying 2.5", but probably good to make sure before I order.
I don't think I could go reverse flow but do use a set of Hooker Glasspacks in mine. Not really as loud as I want and a little restrictive compared to the MaxFlow. At cruise you can carry on a conversation but people do hear you coming.
I have a '71 with a 350. PO installed Hooker reverse flow. I wanted more performance so I switched to Classic Chambered Vettepacks. Engine has a lot more power - especially at high rpm. I would say 20% louder and 20% more power. They are about the same at idle, but scream at WOT. Louder kn the highway.. My wife can handle the noise.
Question for you guys who have gone this route, how much HP do you lose in the process? Percentage wise that is?
My wife wears ear muff covers when she rides in my car, and I never drop the loud pedal either while she is in it.
