And anyone who has gone through a frame off restoration also knows how much it costs (the main reason for the off periods LOL)...
Still no regrets though... I'm hoping to have one last final push this year and get it done.
If you want to check out a bunch more pictures you can check my site at www.9teen70vette.com
Enjoy

P.S. Have I waited patiently 16 years without driving a Vette... heck no... I caved in and bought a 2007 Indy 500 Pace Car back in 2011... Have driven it 50000 miles in those 6 years that I have had it, so no garage queen for me.

When I bought it...

Frame/drivetrain done!

Interior preparation

Engine bay (Base 350/300HP)

Almost there!
Outstanding job ! I'm in the beginning stages of my 1970 Coupe rebuild and you have indeed inspired me to push on. Thanks for that.
Your pictures from your blog will help me immensely. You'll have a beauty when your done.

Hi caskiguy, thanks and glad I can encourage a fellow C3 owner to push on! It'll all be worth it in the end!

Got a lot of the interior done in the last few weeks... all that's left are the door panels and the seats, but the rest seems good to go...
Next project is tackling the convertible top frame... needs to be refurbished as there are some bushings that were "rigged" to work, but don't work very well. Some areas need welding as well. Then it's placing the new convertible top. Should be a challenge. I've purchase the Al Knoch video, so hopefully that will help.
Enjoy the interior pics...

Hi 70,
I always enjoy your photos!
I must say I'm surprised that so much of the interior has been installed before the exterior was painted.
What's the thinking there?
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,

I just checked with my cousin, as he is the mastermind behind the restoration, and he is of the mindset that he would rather have the interior almost finished before there is paint on the body instead of having to install a bunch of bulky parts with a freshly painted car. It's so easy to brush up against or ding a car when you're still doing a lot of work around it, getting in and out of it, etc...

He says he likes to keep the paint until the end, and that masking the interior is easy enough so that no fumes can enter. Obviously he'll remove some parts (sill plates, etc), but for the most part he won't be touching the interior again.

I should have some more pictures shortly related to the convertible top frame, as he has it completely disassembled and is giving it a thorough refurbishing.

Stay tuned, and keep the questions coming.
Thanks, Denis

Very nice.

I bought my '71 Convertible in 1999 and want to do a frame off really bad. My problem is I love to drive it and don't want to wait.
Someday after I win the lottery I'll buy another C3 to drive and frame off the one I have now.

So here's what my convertible top frame looks like as of tonight... stripped totally bare and disassembled almost completely... it will be straightened, new bushings put in, some welding to repair some rust holes (and to put it back together), then will be repainted and clear coated. I'll show some progress pictures as I get them...

I know what you mean... I couldn't wait any longer so back in 2011 I bought a 2007 convertible... love driving it. I know someday soon I will enjoy driving the 1970 as well.

Thanks Brit Vet... yeah it's likely the same exhaust... 2 1/2" chambered exhaust... I haven't even heard them yet. Hopefully we'll start it up soon and I'll get to hear it!

The longest mine has been off the road was 8 months when my clutch went out. I was like a crackhead walking through the "hood" with no money. It was bad.
I've been looking at some C6's lately the only obstacle to that is my son going to collage in a year-and-a-half. For the price of collage I could buy two brand new top of the line Stingrays.

Already starting to look better just 1 day later... get some paint and clear coat on that and it'll look brand new.

A few more convertible top frame photos... making sure it fits properly... will need to work a bit on the rear bow to get it closer to the body near the corners.
Hoping to get the top on in the next couple of weeks.

Hi my70,
Interesting photos since fitting the frame in place, without the vinyl on it, is rarely documented!!!!
Thanks!
Regards,
Alan

Dry run fitting before putting in the windshield... just making sure everything lines up good... looks pretty good... not too many adjustments to make.

Pretty much a little lull in the progress on my 1970 lately... cousin was working on another project for a couple months (1975)... pics from the '75 below...
