Rear License Plate Mounting
Just bought my 2nd C3 1979 L82 and was curious if anybody else notices that there are no mounting holes to secure the top part of the license plate? A lot of license plate frames only use the top holes. At least the ones I have. So how do I secure the plate on the frame and on to the car with only lower mounting holes?

GM only ever used two mounting screws, for license plates. GM didn't care about aftermarket license plate frames, and GM frames had spring clips on the back of them, to secure the frame to the tag, without using screws.
It takes a little effort, but you can screw the tag to the car using the bottom holes, and then use short screws and nuts to bolt the frame to the tag, using the top holes of the tag. Having small hands may help for this method! You can also attach a frame using double sided trim tap.

Hi,
Mr.Chevrolet had no trouble saving a nickel or two when he could.
The front license plate bracket on early cars was set up to use four nylon push in nuts…. but only 2 nuts were used in production.
AND, it meant two less screws needed to go in the license plate screw envelope…. another nickel or two saved!!!!!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks for all the great responses. I was just making sure I wasn't going nuts or missing something for the rear license plate since it's been over 27 years ago since I sold my previous 1979 C3.
