1981 Project "Now You See Me"
Similar to my intro thread, I'll introduce myself and the quick background of the car. Family car that I aquired since it's been sitting without a motor for 10 years now.
Calling it Now You See Me because the bastards we had faith in lost two motors and went bankrupt. So here we are with a goodwrench crate 350.
I tore it down to a short block. Pistons and cylinders all looked good. 4 bolt main so we'll see how this goes.
L98 aluminum heads, comp cams extreme energy 262 cam, lifters and timing set. Have an edlebrock intake and a a couple holley carbs to pick from. Tons of boxes of parts
Where im at right 4/24
Manifold and some other parts on. 5/3

Pretty close to having the motor ready to be put in. The wife is starting to call this motor the Bermuda Triangle of motors. Oil dipstick was on the wrong side so waiting for new on gaskets. Oil pump pickup didn't fit the vette pan so had to swap that out.
Motor mounts and exhaust manifolds, plugs, and miscillaneous brackets going on this weekend.

Sorry to hear about the creeps who "lost" your engines.
You are making up lost time!

Nice job. I have a stock Goodwrench 350 in mine from PO. Older series from Super Chevy titled "Goodwrench Quest" details what they did about 15 years ago. I'm looking forward to hearing your results with your combination.
The big change I did over the winter that dramatically improved the drivability of the car was the TKO600 swap. Whether an auto or manual, putting in an overdrive gear makes a huge difference.
Can't wait to see this come along!

Thanks guys, sadly I don't get to work on ituch during the weekends. It's more of a weeknight "I have nothing else to do " build. the trans was freshly rebuilt 8 years ago but I need to change a seal as the torque converter has been on it for the same amount of time.

Unlikely as I wont be installing the smog crap when it goes back in, and these manifolds have the welded tubes (I don't weld, so cant cut and braze them). Looking for alternatives because I do not want to do long tubes and have to change the entire exhaust.
If anyone has any tips on whats needed to remove the smog/ A I R stuff besides EGR delete (already have) that would be great. Theres about 1000 threads on the pros and cons I have read.

I installed "close-fitting shorty headers" on my GM 350 StreetTruckproject. There was plenty of room to do whatever I wanted with the exhaust system.

Question for anyone, motor is up and running. No smog equipment hooked up, vacuum advance and limping on E4ME unplugged until the holley is rebuilt. Since I will no longer be using the CCC, will unplugging the main harness from the firewall be sufficient, or do i need to disconnect the actual computer as well. Thank you.

Unfortunately not all people who troll the forum are members.
A few years back - Friends home shop was ransacked after his shop was featured in a car magazine - not hot-rodder's just undesirables who trolled the web and magazines..
Cops caught them and they admitted they were using magazines and internet to "locate perspective marks".
Just an ounce of prevention.. maybe...

Update here, car is mobile and on the road. Working out some carb issues, having trouble getting the right carb as coming across a decent quadrajet with idle solenoid and electric choke is tough. I picked one up from Craigslist which the choke is not operating properly and it didn’t have the auto trans kick down. I swapped base plates and car is running ok but not near performance level.
Vacuum leak somewhere here as Only getting a slightly bouncy reading of 9 inches of vacuum and the air idle screws are ineffective ( also need to rejet).
No dash lights (posted separate thread).
Bled all brakes and replaced the rear calipers as one blew and leaked fluid everywhere. Will do the fronts soon just because.
here’s an update pic at the gas station the other day with my sidekick.
