Default New 17" AR Torq Thrust and Firestone Firehawk Tires

I have had my Cooper tires on my Vette for about 2 years. There has been a nagging vibration around 55mph the whole time. I had them rebalanced on a Hunter 9700 last week. The technician showed me the problem, 2 of the tires were out of round so bad they couldn't be properly balanced. I decided to move up to 17" wheels due to the lack of available 15" tires. I purchased 17"X8" American Racing Torq Thrust ll wheels and 235/55-17 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires from Tire Rack. They also mounted and Road Force balanced the tires. They arrived today. I installed them and went for a ride...smooth and totally enjoyable. Here is a before pic and a few after install pics. (I'm not a photographer.)

I like the way the 55 series tires fill out the wheel arches.

Me too!!! I got the rims from 72 stinger here, Joe was great to deal with. Tire Rack was great and they delivered them locally. I had questions and the guys at Tire Rack took care of me. When I brought them to Town Fair tire in Nashua to mount and balance they got all excited when I told them they where going on a 68 Vette. When I picked them up they had them all marked where they should go on the car due to the factory wobble of the rims, talk about personal service.

Your car looks great!!! Time to go cruising!!

Awesome tire, quiet ride, sticky in the corners, very smooth

Love AR wheels on our C3s, and I really like aftermarket side pipes with aftermarket wheels, so yours is a huge from me.

17" rims and 235/55/17 tires. If your buying through tire rack, go to the vendor section and read what they say on the tire rack page. You want to ref Tony if i remeber right. They get cfedit for being here but unfortunately doesnt get us a bigger discount. But $104 a tire is great.

In my humble opinion, even with all the upside, giving up the raised white lettering is a substantial trade-off. A PIA to keep white sometimes, and then there's the standard wheel well clearance that until quite recently (even with larger tires) was mandated by law in some states (i.e. Colorado) for tire chain clearance; but those raised letters, well... uh, they just seem to belong.

That's funny, I just got the exact same wheel and tire setup. Unfortunately, one of the wheels was out of round, so I haven't been able to drive it yet. I picked up the new wheel/tire today, so I'll be ready to try it out this weekend. I love the look, but I do miss the white letters.

the correct wheel from AR is 17x8 with a 3.79" back space and offset of 11mm, no spacer required. The label on Rodgers tire said 235/55
