1970 Corvette Purchased "Shop Find?"
New to this area of the board. This is actually the first Corvette I've ever owned myself. I'm a long time car guy, into Pontiacs, road racing (BMWs) and anything in between.
Been leisurely searching for a C3 Stingray mostly for my wife for the last few years. Needed to be an auto for her. I prefer the chrome bumper years, but finding a good one gets a little pricey.
My buddy gave me tip on this 1970 for posted for sale at his Corvette shop last week. Shop owner was selling it for a customer. Initial pictures looked promising and the price seemed really good at $9995. Hurried down there the next morning, there was a guy looking at it when I pulled up. He wanted to buy it and said he'd give $12,500 for it but didn't have the money their yet. They were getting a lot of calls on it as you can imagine.
I looked at it for a little while. Frame looked really solid. Definitely a "20 footer", bunch of scrapes, scratches, etc. Interior trim is toasty, lots of loose parts. Its all there though. Starts up, runs drives, stops. Had to make a decision fast before the other guy got back. I figures worst case if my wife doesn't like it and can't look past all the little imperfections I could flip it for a small profit pretty easily. Went into shop and gave the owner the $10K he was asking.
Brought it home for Mother's Day and surprised my wife with it. To my delight, she loves it! I only let her drive it up and down the driveway so far. Been taking a closer look at it this week and seems better mechanically than I had feared. Car was not totally neglected. Looked like the previous owner had some work done. Engine runs smooth. A replacement 350 installed in 2006. Here's some pictures. Thanks for taking a look. I'm a Corvette noob, so any helpful advice is appreciated.

Any more of these out there for $10k? Jeez... totally stole this one. Beautiful car for the price.
Those seats look like they were replaced w/ Leather at some point (prob. within last 10 years) which is great. Should clean up nicely.
What's lurking under the dash pad could be a project... Other than that though, this looks nice.
Even if you have to re-paint at some point, you likely won't be underwater on this one.

Burning Brakes
nice find, you can clean the interior up with a little time and elbow grease and spray nine or what ever you like, any parts you can get from one of the vendors

Trim tag reads 982 and 424 which would be Donnybrooke green over saddle leather, right? I want to order a couple of interior trim parts, not sure if that's considered light or dark saddle?
Likely will keep it red and just try to restore the current paint. I think with some skilled touch up, cut, and polish it will come out decent for a driver. No point in my mind to do whole repaint for right now, there's still some mechanical sorting to do. I'm sure I'll find a way to get underwater eventually on this one too, I got that '78 TA literally for free and I'll lose money on it. LOL! :/
Hey were rear disk brakes standard on all vettes back then? Really impressed with how stout they are for a car of that era. I mean, they look like brembo style and you pull the pads out the back of the caliper. Very nice. Super awesome how cheap some of these parts are too.
Thanks everyone for the input.

Very nice and well-equipped.
You can lift it from the engine cradle, just span it with a 2x4 oriented front to back.
That looks like light saddle to me. Although the driver's door panel looks like something else (maybe different lighting). Easy enough to dye to match.
Yup, the brakes on these cars work great. 4 piston fixed calipers all around was standard since at least '68. Rotor runout and leaking seals are the main things to look out for. Bleeding the master requires a little care, but all very doable.
