Default Ford GT tail lights

If there is anything I want to be big, bright and in your face on my car, it is brake lights. I hate the look of discrete pinpoints of LED rings. I've got super bright LED bulb replacements on my car, and they're OK. But these...... Any idea how this look is achieved? And yes I know that hot air is vented through here. Good place for the back up light on my 69.

A bit of amusing trivia. How many here know that the original Ford GT40 tail lights were Corvair parts?

Thanks guys, the collective memory here is just outstanding. I have to wonder where the inspiration for these two tail light designs came from. The Denpo post is from 2015 and it seems like we didn't see too much of the Ford GT until after that. 7T2's is even earlier. I guess Ford copied y'all.

I have a lot of catching up to do. Flagged Denpo with thanks as well.

And I did somehow know that little bit of trivia about the Corvair.

I don't have a picture to show you but start looking at semi trailers when you are on the highway. I'm starting to see a lot of trailers have a round bulb housing (similar to ours) where the running light is a ring and the brake light is the center light in the middle of the ring. I see them on the road all the time and wonder how hard it would be to adapt them to a Corvette.

What would be nice is if you could fit them behind stock c3 tail lights, so they dont look like semi trailer lights,

That is exactly what I did on my car. The pic I posted above shows the LED rings illuminated, and they are the running lights. I have LED bulbs in the center which act as the turn signal and brake lights:

I used COB LEDs with a electronic sequential flashers- for the front- Could easily be incorporated in the back for brake lights-

The COB are definitely not pinpoint-

Here's the COB on the rear side-

I did the trailer light on my 76. They fit good but i had to use the black rubber thing to have them sit good there's a thread on here of someone who did that conversion which is how i went about it. I tried to find a trim ring to fit but the tractor ones are to big now that im learning cnc probably try an tackle it soon along with the bracket for rack and pinion steering

Very good, thanks all, I'm glad I asked this question. I intend to explore this a little more once I unwind some of my other commitments and projects. Once possibility would seem to be 3D printing a fixture to hold the "angel eyes" as I now learn from this thread these are called. The printed fixture would have to be some sort of metal or metal composite. Our library has a 3D printer service which would serve as an intro. Gotta keep the brain active. I mean if high school kids can do this ...

I feel the same way, I hate the little pin-****** of light on new cars. I much prefer the even glow of an incandescent bulb.

The original GT40 came out in 1964. I don't believe they used Corvair taillights.

The 1967 Lemans winning Ford MKIV (which if I'm not mistaken is not actually referred to as a GT40) ran the Corvair taillights at Lemans in 1967 and still has them on the car.

Other than that the GT40 family of cars ran all kinds of different taillights using many different configurations.

Right, in most cases taken from what ever euro car was handy in many cases low end models...
