1972 Wiring questions, factory or ????
Hello all I am trying to figure out what has been done to the alarm system on the 1972 corvette I recently bought. I have noticed quite a few 1970's that had the alarm switch removed and the hole "glassed" over. Was this common or it just been a coincidence in the ones I encountered?
I will post the actual alarm questions during the week but my question at this point is the wiring I found. Two issues that I tried looking through the AIM manual, the forum and the internet without a answer.
First above the license plate and the "corvette" lettering I found the following wires taped up.
So I assume shorter two are the orange an pink wires that go to the alarm switch, correct? But the next question is what are the longer wires for/from? They are red. black and blue(or green). I cannot figure out what they are to. Nothing in the wiring diagram I have lists them and everything in the back of the car seems wired so??? Wild guess, were they hookups for towing?????
2nd question is in the jack storage compartment were the alarm components are present. In the back wall of the compartment there is a small stud that has a nut and a electrical connection tip still present, but no wire of any kind leading to it. I cannot find a another photo of it elsewhere on another Vette. It seems like a ground??? But for what? There appears to be no wires missing, the alarm wiring is complete and the small "glove compartment" light is intact. So what is it? Added after production?? Sorry no photo of it till the weekend.
I am trying to sort through both of these in an attempt to figure out the alarm system. So any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!! Ike

UA6 Alarm system was optional for the 1968-1971 cars so this is probably why you think a lot of the earlier cars were glassed over.
1968 cars only had 388 made with the alarm.
1969 cars had 12,436
1970 cars had 6,727
1971 cars had 8,501.
1972 it became a standard option.
This schematic is for a 69-70 alarm system but I believe it's the same for the 1971-1972 cars. I'd have to double check that later.

Thank you sir for this and all your responses!!!! Yes I have that diagram from another post of yours. The only part that threw me off was that the color of the orange and pink wire. I thought they were both orange on the diagram and on the car, before I realized one was pink. Some of the colors have faded.
Anyone have any thought as to the other set of wires and the stud in the jack storage compartment. I would love to know what I am dealing with before I go searching. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!! Ike

Hey Thanks that was my thoughts as well only because of location and the number of wires. I will follow them back to see were and if they were spliced in. Factory or after production? Thanks again Ike

So for anyone following along, the upper two wires are the alarm wires one is the orange and the other is a pink that has lost its color. Good news is the alarm wiring is intact and working.
The lower group does appear to be a after production wiring hooked into the rear brake lights probably for a trailer hookup. You can see more modern splicing. Why I have no idea.
So I will probably remove the trailer wires and move ahead with restoring the alarm.
Thanks all!!! Ike
