Ruptured Fuel Line Burns C3 Corvette to a Crisp
It’s always the little things to be wary of when it comes to a classic like the C3 Corvette.

It's easy to happen... Happened to me. Line into the carb sprung a leak.. The spark from the distributor set it off. Fortunately (if you can believe this) a firefighter driving by saw the flames and put out the fire before the damage was extensive. Still a lot of damage but repairable.
So beware of faulty gas lines.

This is why hard lines from the pump to carb. is the ONLY way to plumb them.

Could be worse. Racing buddy of mine was just a Willow Springs with SVRA. Broken fuel line burns a Cobra to a crisp. Not a kit car, a real Cobra.
Owner mentions afterwards, he smelled fuel that morning when getting the car ready.

Back in 1968 I watched a C2 burn up two blocks from the fire department. They catch fire quickly.

Way back in the 60s I watched a C1 crash into a pole and burn to a crisp with the driver in it. Something you never forget.

close call
I had a close call when I changed the fuel pump back to original design with a return line to the tank on my 68 with a 454.
Hooked it all up and then cranked & ran and then checked and checked for leaks in the engine compartment. All good.
Finally when I walked by the rear of the Corvette, gas was spraying out where I ran the rubber hose from the hard return line to the tank. After troubleshooting, turns out I discovered why the previous owner may have abandoned the hard return line as I found a pinhole leak right at the upturn bend.
No fire but a reminder to be super careful with gas. Not only can lose the Corvette but get hurt or worse.
