Just got first Corvette - Paint and Body Questions
I finally made the "upgrade" to a Corvette. After my 1969 SS/RS 396 Camaro, Chevy 72 K10 Cheyenne. I just picked up a 1970 LT-1 in good condition. The body is is great condition and the repaint is good enough to not be noticed by the normal guy but I will be to repaint to original Bridgehampton Blue. I live in Southern CA and wonder if there is any recommended shops that would do a good job on this.
Thanks and I look forward to contributing and this looks like a really close community. Knowing other Forums, Yes I'll post pics when I can.

Hi Rich, nice to have another So Cal'er in the group. Where in the southland are you located? I'm in Chino Hills, gateway to the Inland Empire. I'm no paint expert and know no experts in the area, but have you talked to the folks over at West Coast Corvettes? They should know a thing or two and might be worth a trip to get some advice.

One word of caution: Bridgehampton Blue was GM exterior paint code #979 in 1970 and 1971. Corvette used exterior code #979 in 1972, also. BUT IT WAS NOT THE SAME COLOR. The name for 1972 was Targa Blue, and it was darker blue with no tint of green in the highlights....a totally different color of blue.
I can't tell you how many 1970 and 1971 C3's I've seen that were supposed to have Bridgehampton Blue paint on them--but they really were painted Targa Blue. I'm pretty certain the painter just went with the first #979 paint code formula that he/she came across and shot it with the wrong color.
Moral: Make sure that your painter gets the correct paint formula for 1970/1971 #979, if you want Bridgehampton Blue on your car.
{It is a great color, BTW. And, of course, I have no bias...}

Is an LT1 Corvette really an upgrade from a 69 rs/ss 396 Camaro? I know it used to be, but value wise I'm not so sure anymore. The collector car world has been turned on its head on what used to be hot now not.

Its why I put upgrade in quotes. It was at the time but both cars are awesome. I don't do this hobby as a investor or collector so I don't get too overhyped on values.
The joy is in the passion and my almost one year loves being in the drivers seat so maybe in a future world of self driving cars she'll still like being behind the wheel. I do have a Tesla so I know it's coming the Autopilot is good and keeps getting better.
