alright !
Wanted to share this with you guy's. This was my wife's gift to me for our 30 year wedding anniversary! I bought the car when I was a junior in High school. I've owned it ever since, 30 plus years now.
I've always wanted to have it painted one day. But there were always more important things in life that came first,
The car always ran great. It was the body that was starting to show it's age. Here's kinda the cool part of the story. We have a friend who restores Corvettes for a living, over 40 plus years now.
One day my wife asked if we could take a ride over to see my friends shop ,and to say hello. At this point I really had no idea what she had planned. She even had her car parked near his shop so we could get back home.
When I handed over my key's, they said "see you in about a six months to a year"!
What started out as a straight foreword paint job, has turned into a full body ON restoration!
As of last week, the car is just about ready to go to primmer. About four more weeks left in the body shop in all. Then engine, trans and interior go back in. Light at the end of the tunnel...
My wife asks once the car is done. How about we do the Rt 66 drive next year.. How in the hell do you say NO to that!

Jeez, I thought I had the best wife in the world. I will have to show her this post.....
A line my wife once said to me - for real - when it came to something I wanted, she said "You're either in the game or you're not. Go big or get out !!" God I love that woman.
You have a great car and a great wife. Enjoy !!

Wonderful story and God Bless both of you! We recently completed the Route 66 journey in our C3. Got to visit a grade school friend of mine in Chicago with terminal cancer. Yep...your understanding wife is spot on...now block out that Route 66 trip on next year's calendar.
Regards,
Tom

HiTom69,
California will be our turn around. Maybe if time allows we can all meet up?. Hoping we can talk sometime soon. Need to ask you a bunch of questions on your adventure.

Definitely look as up. We may have more in common than you think. My wife is from Elmhurst and I from Addison.
We completed the Route 66 journey two weeks ago. Here is a link to our travels:

Well after nearly 6 months at the paint shop. My anniversary gift paint job from my wife is almost done! Everything I've seen these guy's do along the way, I couldn't be more happy with.
I have zero experience with body work & paint....So my hats off to all you guys who have done this them self's I remember a member asking how the shop was going to handle the door jambs. Here's a few pictures of how they handled that.

After talking with a friend, who had his C2 "66" painted. Is there an advantage / disadvantage to taking the doors off to paint the jambs? They didn't take his doors off for his re-paint.. Is taking the doors off standard procedure? Thanks' in advance.
