Default Anniversary gift from my wife

Wanted to share this with you guy's. This was my wife's gift to me for our 30 year wedding anniversary! I bought the car when I was a junior in High school. I've owned it ever since, 30 plus years now.

I've always wanted to have it painted one day. But there were always more important things in life that came first,

The car always ran great. It was the body that was starting to show it's age. Here's kinda the cool part of the story. We have a friend who restores Corvettes for a living, over 40 plus years now.

One day my wife asked if we could take a ride over to see my friends shop ,and to say hello. At this point I really had no idea what she had planned. She even had her car parked near his shop so we could get back home.

When I handed over my key's, they said "see you in about a six months to a year"!

What started out as a straight foreword paint job, has turned into a full body ON restoration!

As of last week, the car is just about ready to go to primmer. About four more weeks left in the body shop in all. Then engine, trans and interior go back in. Light at the end of the tunnel...

My wife asks once the car is done. How about we do the Rt 66 drive next year.. How in the hell do you say NO to that!

BEST wife in the world!!

OK. Here's the tough question. What did you get for HER on the 30th Anniversary???

{Hopefully, you remembered it.....}

And, we expect full coverage of the Route 66 trip when you take it!

Wanted to tell you guy's what started all of this. My factory bonding seams started showing through the paint. Not bad, but when the sun was just right I could see them. I knew it would only get worse in time. Then I noticed those rivets that hold the head light assembly started to rear there ugly heads ever so lightly. That, I couldn't live with.

My wife had a pretty good idea what a quality paint job was going to run. But nothing more then that. When we sat down with George, the guy who's in charge of the car. He explained
it didn't make much sense to do the paint and not go further.
Meaning reinstalling all the 45 year old weather stripping, trim and such. So all new trimmed has been ordered.

George said same with the engine bay. He wanted that to look as good as the out side of the car! The only way we do that at his shop, is to pull the motor,..they did!. Same with the interior..

So what had turned out to be a pretty straight forward paint job. Turned into a frame on restoration....

When George got wind of a possible RT 66 trip. He wanted to go over every bit of the car's suspension He has since done that.. Rebuilding or replacing everything from front to rear on the chassis.

On the ride home, the wife & I talked over the #"s. Her gift of a paint job was one thing, The frame on was quit another....

This was here reply to me. ...We have lost a couple of really close friends to cancer recently. At to early of an age, late 40's early 50's. Tomorrows aren't promised. Every day we wake up is a bonus If we don't do this now, (the car) then when......?

As I said before,..Best wife ever!!

Picture to follow when I receive them.
