This is the fully restored 1977 original frame. It has new body mounts; new gussets; reinforced welds; a new cross member strike plate; and a new removable transmission cross member. It has been media blasted and powder coated and is ready for service.

While I had them out and available I did a comparison of the 1976, 77, and 78 frames so I would be able to help others in the future with the differences and their modifications.

The 1976 frame (right) and the 1977 frame (left) are virtually identical. I would see no issues whatsoever in using one for the other for any 76 or 77 that has a rotten frame in need of replacement. The differences in the 1978 frame are in the mounting of the gas tank support and it is an easy modification for use on a 1976 or 1977 car. This 78 is an automatic frame. The 76 is a manual frame. The 77 is a modified manual frame.

When doing a frame to rolling chassis build there is nothing better for guidance than an actual original rolling chassis sitting nearby as a road map. I have built a few rollers now so I am comfortable building them but this is always a nice way to do them with a model to compare your work.

And coming home soon will be my first C-2 frame; a manual 1965 frame which I will be restoring soon. I will photograph it and show the differences in the frames for those that would like to know more.

Just out of curiosity since the 78 and 79 model year being so similar would that mean that with the same mod on the gas tank mount mean that a 79 frame could be interchanged also ?
