Default NEW (2017) picture posting Instruction thread !

As many members know, Photobucket, long considered the default hosting site to use in posting pictures on Internet forums, has decided to charge a substantial amount to use this service, where it was free previously. Those who choose to subscribe to this service can of course still use this method. However, many members are separating from them and are interested in the methods offered by the forum.

This thread will replace the "PHOTOBUCKET directions + other options" threads I'd posted in the Sticky sections in C1/2 and C3 in previous years.

I posted a quick and easy set of instructions in C1/2 when this first came to light in order to help members affected immediately by this change. Some members lost their photo links immediately; others still are functioning for reasons I don't know- maybe the rollout is gradual. This was a quick band-aid to help those lost in transition.

Member DZVette (Dave) generously offered to provide his professional expertise in assembling a great, clear tutorial in PDF form, taken from that thread, with all the information you will need to know to use either of the Forum's 2 simple methods for accessing your photos and posting them on the forum.

I'd like to publically acknowledge Dave's extremely helpful contribution to this effort in helping members adjust to a post-Photobucket world. Thanks very much, Dave.

The following post by Dave contains the PDF in its complete form, explaining 2 methods. I will post very short summaries of each in subsequent posts for easy reference once people try the system. Many people use these methods already.

Per Steve's instructions, I am attaching a modified version of his thread regarding uploading photos to the Forum in light of the issues some are experiencing with their PB accounts. Steve and I worked through this together.

The PDF is attached. Hope it is useful to some of you!

Note: I created quick summaries for both methods in the similar thread in C1/2. Go here to see them:

Be warned- have read but not verified-

IMGUR has started blocking ANY forum that has a for sale forum.

Hi,
For those looking for a place to store un-posted photos:
PB had driven me more crazy than I already was…..even before the newest changes came into being.
I've been using Image Shack since last Fall.
After a free trial it costs about $3.00 per month. (The hair I tore out of my head because of PB is starting to grow back in.)
It's as simple to use as PB and has NO ads.
It doesn't have quite the edit capability that PB had but is o.k. for most things.
For someone who has their photos on their computer the uploading described in this thread is GREAT. I need/want my photos to be stored a couple of places besides on my computer and CF.
Regards,
Alan

Anyone know if there is a max amount of pictures you can directly upload?

The past couple years I have been using the Corvette Forum to host my pics- as it was super easy and worked well.

HOWEVER- a lot of old threads that the pics were priceless - had become useless-

Here's a couple of fixes to magically get the pictures to re appear w/o paying a ransom
to Photobucket-

Those who run 'Firefox" browser- this is a link to their site and you just add a simple add-on and you are there.

I run Firefox- tested it out and it works-

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...-recentlyadded

Here's one for those running "Chrome"-

Just add the extension and thsat's it-

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...flicjjgj?hl=en

Hope that helps-

Richard

Just an FYI - flickr.com works great and is super easy to post pics.

IMHO....third party posting is a HUGE waste of time.

We already have an application on the forum called "Manage Attachments". When you post, you just scroll down to it and click on it. Attach your saved pics and download.

So simple even a caveman with a vette could do it......

Strongly disagree. With an iphone, you simply take the pic and then forward to flickr. Then copy and paste the code here, could not be easier, literally 60 seconds. Not a HUGE waste of time at all.

What is your procedure that is so much quicker?

The difference is that 3rd party "free" apps turn into "pay" apps. I take my pics with my phone or my digital camera. Save them to my hard drive for future reference and not in some 3rd party program. I back them up on thumb drives.
SO MANY people here have posted with apps like Photobucket which ended up losing the pics in their posts. Now they, or any of us who want to view them have to pay $400/yr for the service.

Here is a list of apps and what they cost in reality.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...aring_websites

In the meantime, I'll use the non-broken free service here....you of course can choose to act differently...

Peace
Dennis

Btw...the sailboat shot is from my old 35mm camera slide in 1976 Key West Fl....saved on my hard drive

I agree, Photobucket screwed a lot of threads up but thats another story.

Your statement above was that "third party posting is a HUGE waste of time".

Bottom line, there are different ways to post pics and I was sharing the one I choose to use.

I'm sure everyone knows they should back up the photos they dont want to lose, again another story.

I agree that you found a good method for you.

I have been using the Manage Attachments feature for a long time and it is right here.
I keep pointing it out and still see people struggling with other apps.

That was my point...that's all.
Try looking at an old Tech thread and you cannot see the pics because people used 3rd party storage.

A lot of work lost.

Either way.....thanks for your comments.

Have a great New Year.....

To get your pictures downloaded back off Photobucket onto your computer, use the link that Richard posted above, plus I use Chrome, so I also downloaded this extension that allowed it to download very fast.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...pkeopelc?hl=en

Before that, I could only download 1 photo at a time, this let me download an entire album and packages it in zip files of 100 photos each. I was able to save all 1650 photos to my computer in about a half hour.

Ok what about uploading videos I have on my hard drive (photos section of windows) that have come from my phone ? Thus far when I click new post and go to the tab where I normally upload photos, then click on the video I want, it won't load and says wrong format or some such thing. Not a techie.

Andy, I can't speak to whether you can upload videos directly to the forum but uploading to YouTube and posting is pretty straightforward. Copy the YouTube URL link and post it directly into your post, don't use the YouTube button. This will let the video play directly from your thread.
