Yeah, I know. Totally subjective question. However, if you have an opinion I'd like to hear it.

I've been searching for that C3, chrome bumper, eye catching custom and I stumbled upon this one.

The car has been finished for about 3 years. 900 miles on it. The owner seems like a very nice, intelligent and likable guy but I think he has an emotional attachment to it.

He says he's got 100k into it. To me, all the money was spent on body, modifications, paint, interior, tires/wheels and of course the car itself. This was a frame on build. He says the frame is rust free and the suspension was replaced with original type parts. No elaborate suspension at all.

The engine and engine bay does not fit the rest of the car in my opinion. Totally boring and mundane. It's a 427 which he knows very little about other than it runs just fine.

If I was to purchase this car I would drive it the way it is a year or so then transplant a late model Vette engine and 6 speed trans.

He's at 70k. I offered 55k because I think that's what its worth. As we all know you very rarely recoup the build cost. I suppose I would be willing to push my offer to 65k but that would just prolong my planned drive train transplant.

We do have the Good Guys coming to town in September but who knows what will show up for sale.

OK guys, lets have it.

As you say, value is subjective. Since you plan to swap out the drive train what you are really looking at is a modded body with a custom interior (hate the dash, BTW), wheels and some cheap looking side exhausts. I think your offer is more than generous.

As a buyer someones emotional attachement should have 0 value to you same with money "invested". Most of us are lucky to see .25 on the dollar on hot rods it seems; really hard to say what its worth.

Pretty sure this car has been posted here in the past
55 is a LOT to pay for something youll probably have apart in pieces except for the interior. A good LSx 427 6 spd converion will cost a whole lot dont let anyone tell ya its cheap.
At the end of the day only you know if its worth it to you or not (or you just gotta have it)

Based on the first 2 photos, I would say the owner is a little upside down on this car.

Yeah, that's what I tried to explain to the owner. This guy doesn't need the money, not even close. It wasn't even for sale but I inquired about it.

Seems to me there is no love for C3 resto mods, unlike C1 and C2's. With this car, the whole persona of the car is the killer body and interior. I would replace that unattractive, mundane, so so, boring engine with a C7 LT4 which I know would cost me about 25k .....but the price of the car has to be right.

I'll keep looking

I like those wheels , any chance you can remember the brand name ?

As you say , the engine bay is boring and with standard suspension , your buying flares, wheels and an interior.

Damn, I can't remember what he said. It started with a "P". He said they were one off wheels built for this car based off the wheels on the well known Kaos resto mod but a different manufacturer.

Found my notes...they're Forgiato

As the owner of a '68 Restomod, I feel your offer of $55k is in the ballpark if you like it. As noted the large majority of the money is in body, interior and wheels. For $50k+ I think that amount justifies fuel injection be it the Big Block or LS engine which this car does not.

So I guess you need to decide how much to like the body and interior since you plan to install a LT4 and 6speed. And along with that how much do you want to invest, as a LT4 crate/6speed and incidentals will run you at least $20K but will likely be more since I'm sure you want a custom install to match the custom theme. In addition you're looking at another $10k for labor (unless you plan to do it yourself).

That's why I liked them , they looked like the Kaos wheels , and they aren't getting made anymore. Excellent help thank you.

I just looked them up , they have a dealer for them here ,local to me !

it would look better with 69 side pipes. 55-65 sounds good. Theres a lot of hours in that car. I think it looks great. I would go with a full monoglass suspension for a smoother ride

I like the car. If you are gonna change the drive train anyway, well perhaps I would value better suspension. If it is the car you want and it fits your budget, give it a shot. That paing is probably $15K or more alone. Having said that, I kinda like the stockers:

cars that are real personalized can be tough to put a price on

If you bought it once the motor was out I guarantee youd want to pull the body off looking around the engine compartment it could use a lot of freshening. Just cosmetic though

Think you can find a nice candidate for hig teens/ 20ish sell the motor/trans and go do your thing. Youll spend 25k doing the conversion you want if its going to be a quality job..motor trans tank electrical it will be extensive $$
The guys doing "cheap" ls conversions are very good wtih a wrench but most Ive seen that are budget are sheer hackjobs with a high mile motor.

I bumped my offer to 65K....that's all the money. He's thinking about it

May need one of our Florida guys to check it out prior to me flying out there to inspect it myself. Will pay for your time and effort.

I am in eustis fl,

Restro mods short of a few are built to suit the owner, example, this threads car some will like some will hate the interior,

Seldom will everything be just what the next buyer wants so one has to decide how close it is to just what you want,

I could not imagine paying 65k for a car knowing i would drop another 25k to start to be happy with it, if i understood all that correctly,

There are several super nice restro mods owned by members, they as far as i know are not up for sale but 65k might place them on the block, lol,

I just believe in that price range a person can get what they want and not settle or have to waste money at all...

Leave him your name and number and the $55K offer. If he changes his mind, he'll call.

Noted and totally agree. I've decided that 427 is fine. I would eventually pull the motor, add some HP and EFI.

How close are you to Miami?

Just looked at the map. looks like you are a good 4 hours away from Miami.
