Headlights won't turn off on 1974 corvette

High beams stay on 1974 corvette
My high beam switch is next to my brake pedal however when I turn on my headlights my high beams come on and when I press the high beam pedal next to the brake it switches to my low beam lights. When I release the high beam pedal it turns back to the high beams. For over a month now I have to hold the pedal to keep my low beams on. Please help!!

No you remove the LH kick plate cover. To do this remove the 4 screws for the door sill that holds the carpet beside seat/ Then you can slide the kick plate out. Lift rug and you will see a dimmer switch petal. Lift this back and you see the dimmer switch. It has two screws and a wire coupler. Easy to change.
Take a look before you buy the new one as you may find something stuck in dimmer switch that prevents if from working properly. You should hear a definite click every time it is pushed down. Here is a link to dimmer switch
