Default Autometer fuel gauge in my 72.

I am putting Autometer gauges into my 72. The fuel gauge has 2 wires to it. A tan wire and a pink wire. Now it appears that the tan wire goes to the sender and that is the one I will put on the sender terminal. But what does the pink wire do? It looks like it goes to the turn signal switch and then comes out and goes to the coil?

thanks for any help.

I would also suggest you make sure you have the correct sending units because there are some small differences between the auto meters and the stock ones which might give you bad readings

I have the right one. I have done this before.

What does the pink wire do?

As recall the pink wire is the 12v power. I'll have to look at the wiring diagram.

Yes the pink is the 12v power. It is also connected to the water temp gauge which uses a pink wire for 12v

I also think it is 12v but it ends up at the coil after the turn signal switch.

Well that is not right for sure. I know the coil gets 12 volts but in the stock wiring harness it does not get 12 volts. It has a resistor that brings it down to about 9 volts. Somebody has been in there

Directly opposite, please reread your post, and flip that around....
