Default New Tires for the 71 LT-1

Had a problem with the old BF Goodrich TA's (white letters turned brown) Making a long story short, contacted BF Goodrich (Michelin Tires) asked for guideness on how to clean the browning of the letters. They told me if the white letters won't clean to white, with cleaning with soap & water, they will replace the tires. I had to jump through some hoops, but after a couple inspections by BF Goodrich dealers. I got a new set of tires at no charge to me except for the mounting and balancing. Well worth the hoop jumping.

Well that helps me make a decision!

There's a 'reputable' supplier of about every Corvette bit one could possibly ever need that will no longer get any of my business, except under the most desperate circumstances. (not tires, but don't stand behind product they admit to knowing were problematic)

PS: Yes, great looking car.

Hi Jermo.

Glad it all worked out with the tyres and yes, the car looks fantastic in blue. Have you de-striped it or are they hard to see on the blue paint ?

I have that exact problem with my T/As that I bought a year and a half ago. Their willingness to replace them leads me to believe they know of a problem (probably some formula they changed or something like that). My guess is in my case I doubt I'd get new tires for free if I were to pursue that, but I'm not sure I'm willing to go through the trouble.

Thanks Stuart, Yup the LT-1 stripes were taken off. I had the car professionally detailed about 5 years ago and the detailer took them off yeah I wasn't happy, but it has grown on me without the stripes now, maybe someday I'll put them back on

Go for it!(you will be glad you did when its all done by getting rid of those ugly brown letters) BF Goodrich is selling default tires and they need to replace them. Call them at 1-866-866-6605 and ask them what to clean your white letters with because they have turned brown. You should be able to have them inspected at the store you purchased them at, and they'll prorate you due to the tire tread. Mine were free due to I had less than 500 miles on them, they were 5 years old according to the date stamp on the tire.

A great looking car. The raised white letter tires make it look even better!

That's great customer service. I wonder if you were fortunate to get the right person on the other end of the phone or it's a known issue that when brought to their attention BFG takes care of. It's certainly worth a phone call for anyone having the same issue.

You do have a great looking '71 LT1.

Thanks, it's only a simple phone call (maybe several) and taking your car down to a BF Goodrich dealer (maybe a couple like I'm my case)
