OK..some feed back please; Vacuumed system for one Hr., let set 45 min NO leaks 29 inches of mercury.

Pump had oil and charged from factory, I added a little oil to yellow intake/charge line on gages, started car, 1,000 rpm

attached 1st can (A/C Pro 1st charge) 12.5 oz then second can of 12 oz with leak detection dye, started third can of 12 oz. 3rd can not empty yet,

(maybe 32 oz total in car instruction say 2.5 - 3 lb 40-48 oz)

gages read low side 51, hi 300. clutch squeaks, pressure rises the stops and continues ( this happen a few times with low side about 47 and again at 50) Instructions say low 55 psi .....hi 350 psi normal readings???

I stopped charging, can continue tomorrow. pushing about 60 deg from vent.

I am reading where I should have increased rpm to see if low side drops?

ALso....Has any one installed a 14" fan on their condenser and/ or will a smaller on work???

and found the hood will now not open fully with fan now installed, for the stock hood support to hold it open.

DID you have to install another type of hood support?? Gas strut?? or common metal rod as found on most cars??

Maybe a smaller fan works instead of a 14" pusher? placed in the lower corner of the condenser??

New pump and lines installed, began charging, stopped at 50lbs low side, 250 high side.
I had a few squeals from pump so stopped. Found A/C shop who works on this old system. they said; 1) possibly low voltage / loose belt.{ I checked alt. 60 amps. bought new 140 amp, this fixed low battery problem and got a trickle charger, Belt not loose } 2) low on oil, pump came with 3 oz charged. I did not add any, I got a can of oil 150 Pag that can be directly charged into system. have not charged yet.

Yesterday: 10/11/17 I took the car to the A/C shop, an hour and 20 min drive. The owner of the shop remembered our conversation from 2 wks ago. He hooker up the machine and told me to turn it off. He tells me the belt is to loose it is jumping around too much, and that is the problem. The belt is to long it needed a small one to get the right tension, so He gives me one. telling me what the numbers on the belt mean 9550, width 9, length 55 0 inches I had a 55.5" on and no more room to tighten. Tells me to put it on and let him know if it fixed the problem. NO charge.
If it still has a problem come back and he will deal with then. Pressure he says was Hi side 225 low side 40, he says he is happy with that.
Come back in the spring when temps are higher for a performance check up.

To close out this: After the new assembly was installed and charged I took it to a shop that deals with the older stuff. He said the belt was loose?? so he gave me one to install, and he was right it worked, He said the hi side was good and so was the low. and it puts out cold air. I had the wrong size belt.

The cause of the extremely high head pressure is the air that was in the system, non condensible. Once the clutch slips at that rate it will have issues from that point, the contact surfaces are no longer smooth and surface area will be reduced. I see you replaced the compressor after the issues so thats good.

The key to your failure was not pulling a vacuum prior to charging but looks like you got that resolved.

Getting harder to find a shop that will help like he did, and then offer to give it a look when it heats up.

Glad you got it working,

Judging by the contamination of the orifice tube, I'd guess the problem was more than just vacuuming out a little moisture. Happy you persevered and got it working.

Got everything re-attached, charged. Had shop check it out, pressure was good, belt too big and loose just enough to cause it to jump around too much. replaced it and now it works great.

Thanks for the help.
