About a 255/70-15. I'm sure others will chime in w/ something they're already using.

You can stuff alot of tire under there but much will depend on the rim width and offset.

Wasn't there an issue with Cragar SS wheels clearing the brake calipers?

255/70-15 is a tall tire. 29". My 69 has 255/60-15 which are 27". Did the tire diameter increase that much in 10 years? 255 will be the widest you can get in 15" The next size up is a 245/70 15 and it is almost 30" diameter.
Here is a good tire/wheel calculator.

In the early 70's and again in the late 70's (79 included) GM flared the fenders, somewhat.
I would think that 255/60/15's would fit with the correct GM/Chevy offset.
The 1982 CE has 255-60-15's as STOCK.
68-69's are a bitch!

Yeah, but 2 inches is a lot. Go measure your current tire and see how tall it is. Mine are 27 inches and fill the wheel wells fine.
Here is a video of my car with 255/60-15. They are 27 inches tall.

My tires are 225/70-15 and measure 27" tall. they're a perfect fit and replicate the aspect ratio of the original F70-15's.
